    Rate my Custom Recording PC

I won't even touch the Kazaa topic. As far as the computer goes, Without actual model numbers, nobody here will be able to help you. There are specific issues with specific models of everything. A little more info and you'll get more useful responses.

    Easy headphones

Can someone suggest a pair of headphones that posseses the following? 1. comfortable 2. inexpesive (sub $50) 3. Durable (It would be nice to be able to fix them if they broke i.e. available replacement parts) 4. compact (folding would be nice) The purpose of these would be mainly listening...

    What is it?

I guess that answers my question. I think I'll buy it anyway. There's something to be said for just having 'something else' when what you're using isn't working... Chances are, it'll wind up hanging on the wall pretending to be some vintage, super-expensive, esoteric mic. I'm not sure...

How to reduce noise on soundcard

That's the noise floor of your sound card. This is where more money equals better audio performance. With a few exceptions, this also applies to analog gear as well. Unless there is a hum or buzz in the signal coming from some nearby piece of equipment, there isn't much you can do.

    Do Apple Computers Suck?

In the past, Apples have been regarded as having better performance with regards to audio and video. This is still true if you consider the fact that even the fastest Macs processor speeds are much less than their PC counterparts, while their apparent speed is very close. This in itself tells...

    Mono and stero tracks question

You've got it right. Most tracks are mono tracks. Even if you mic something in stereo, it's just 2 mono tracks. You can pan them wherever you want. Beware of phase issues however. This can happen when using more than 1 microphone to record 1 source (instrument). If the distances aren't...

sweet sound at a low volume

The POD and it's bretherin (J-Station, Behringer Vamp, etc..) Are wonderful and amazing tools. They give you all of the classic amp/cabinet combinations for pennies compared to the real thing. They can and are used for recording every day. At some point though, you want just a little more...

    Mixer/Soundcard routing?

Try this thread first. https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=84188 There's a zillion possible ways to hook these things up. Although the setup described in the link above will only allow recording 2 tracks at a time, it should be a good starting point. From there you can...

    Dual Monitor Setup.

Simply put, computer monitor real estate is worth more than ad time during the superbowl. You need only to use a mutimonitor system for a few minutes to understand how much faster and easier it is to work with. Taking it a step further, even Windows 98 will support up to 4 monitors without any...

    Need some advise for playback

Isn't it a bit odd to try so hard to replicate a studio monitor system with home stereo equipment. I understand your theory, but you have to realize that all you are going to wind up with is an OK mid field monitor system. If you really want to reproduce the sound that most people will get on...

    Click Track problems argh!!

The stocking cap thing sounds like a good idea. In this case however, headphone bleed wasn't the problem, it was a signal routing issue.

    Help! CPU fan finnicky...motherboard?

AMD specifies that their processors can withstand temperatures up to 90 C. The problem is that the motherboard can't alway stand these temperatures. Unles you have parts on hand to test with, you're basically shooting in the dark. It seems to me that the fan is OK, but the motherboard is...

I don't think it has anything to do with the soundcard. Let me see if I can reproduce your problem and I'll let you know.

when i stomp OFF my pedal. theres still a faint light lit

Even when the specs on the wall wart read the same, they are not always the same. To prove how inaccurate those numbers can be, test one with a voltmeter. If it's supposed to be 9 volts, I can almost guarantee that the voltmeter will read 13 or 14 volts. It's called 'no-load' voltage. If the...
