Just wondering, I know this is a fire wire interface but my laptop doesn't have a fire wire port...is it possible just to use a USB? Or do I need to get a fire wire card? Thanks!
Would this be what I would need to get all 8 tracks out at once? Alesis I/O26 I can get one of a friend for £180ish. Also I could use this instead of my current USB interface right?
I'm hoping not to use the computer unless absolutely necessary...I think the band I mentioned would do the same -...
I think you're probably right after having another couple of listens. The reverb on the vocals...it's not natural reverb is it? D'you think I could replicate it with something like an Alesis Nanoverb?
I apologise in advance, I know these kinds of threads are done to death but I'm chasing this sort of lo-fi sort of sound, any pointers as to how to achieve it would be really appreciated! I'm also pretty much a newb

Thanks for the help guys. At the moment I've been mixing down to my computer with okish results...I always find it different monitoring through the usb preamp though and the results are always different (as in, not so good) as it sounds when played through the 488 :S
What would the benefits of...
Hi all, I'm in need of some advice...I'm planning to record an album using a tascam 488 mk ii and would like to achieve results similar to this band's work (which is recorded using "an 8 track tape then a computer" - the 8 track tape is a tascam 488 mk ii also) but I'm wondering where the...
Thanks for the comments guys, especially the Elliott Smith reference..it was influenced mostly by him and noones picked up on it before!
I've re mixed it, with more bass (though still possibly not enough). I'd initially taken quite a lot off in fear of it sounding muddy. I mixed it mainly with...
I wasn't but having said that...it may have been set up with the 'stereo mix' as the designated recording device on the laptop, as well as the EMU, which might have something to do with it. Will have another go, thanks.
I've been using an EMU 0204 to take my line outputs from my tascam 488 to my laptop but the results seem to be a bit strange, there's like a small amount of echo on the whole track and it just lacks the fullness from the original, Is there an easy solution to this? thanks :)
Hi all,
I have a deadline tomorrow so I quickly recorded this one...unfortunately my voice isn't 100% at the moment but I had to get it done in some form or another, perhaps I'll come back to it when I can sing properly again. All comments welcome! :)...
Hi,
Recently came across this track on my computer...from what I can work out I was 15 at the time! I think it was recorded on a Tascam DP01 and I recorded the instruments then sang the vocal into a cassette dictaphone, played it back and mic'ed it up to record the vocals onto the DP01 haha...
Nice comments, Ghostred, thanks - this was only a test really as I got used to the program so I'll be re-making it and taking your advice on board. Cheers!
Ah just saw the second part of your post. I'm guessing it's more for the sake of holding the song together? i.e. everyone playing to the same rhythm and building up from that etc..
Does it really matter? I'm recording on an 8 track cassette and wondering if it makes a difference to record a guide acoustic track, then drums, bass etc, then re-record the acoustic? Or not really necessary...? thanks :)
The acoustic was compressed...I've re-recorded the track taking all your comments on board. Couldn't get the backwards solo to sound as good though! :( There's something missing...not quite sure what it is but it doesn't feel as driven as the first one :/ All comments wanted and welcome :)

Has anyone ever tried making one? They're ridiculously expensive (probably with good reason) but I don't have £750+ to be forking out anytime soon and hiring one requires a deposit of £1000! Insane.
