    Monitors vs. headphones

headphones are good for monitoring while you record. however, they are not good for monitoring a mix. having each speaker set discretely to each ear doesn't allow for a proper interpretation of the stereo field. also, having the speaker drivers that close to your ears effects the frequencies...

Based on a description...What is this?

i'm pretty sure its the antenna used for either wireless microphones or wireless in-ear monitors. its usually used in cases where there are a lot of wireless units being used at once. it helps seperate frequencies more accurately.

    e609, e906, m201? Snare, Guitar?

have you thought of bottom micing the snare to get rid of th hat bleed. it also picks up a little more sound from the snares. as for guitar amp mics. i like using a rode nt1a about 12 inches in front and a beta57 shoved in behind an open back amp. the beta57 really helps bring in the low end...

    Whats the Best. . . ?

. . . feature on this message board. I would have to say its the SEARCH button. Just wanted to let people know that. It can be very useful. That way you can read through an old thread where people already responded rather than waiting for someone to respond to your "new" thread. vocal mic...

    Pedalboards....

i guess mines a little bit too much. . . i built one out of a mixer case for a 24 channel mackie. i've got my wireless unit, compressor, tuner, blues driver, tubescreamer, chorus, dl4 delay, crybaby wah, volume and rc20 loop station on there. it weighs in at around 75lbs though. But hey, if...

Bottom of snare - phase reversal

i mic the snare bottom quite often. especially when i use a piccolo snare. if you mic the top and bottom then you probably want to do a phase reversal on one of the mics. if you're just mic'ing the bottom then you don't need to. i'm still learning but i just know that i like the sound of a...

    What Amps

i actually like the mesa dual rec. over the triple rec. the other amps i've heard that i like. peavy 5150 marshall jcm800 bogner ubershall for the most part i think these amps all do the high gain stuff in their own way. as for which amp is better that all depends. if its someone who's doing...

50 watts vavle VS 100 watts transistor ????

a 50 watt marshall would definitely be loud enough. volume is determined by the surface area of the speakers you are using. its just a matter of how much air a speaker can push. more wattage in the amplifier will result in more power to the speaker, causing larger vibrations of the cone. so...

    presonus firepod problem

nevermind, presonus got back to me fairly quickly by email and we were able to fix the problem by. changing the clock source to device. then turning off the firepod and restarting the computer. starting AMS and then turning on the firepod again. so if anyone else has this problem, that is how...

Best Stomp box distortion for blues?

i'm using a boss blues driver into a 79 fender princeton reverb. it works pretty well. i turn the volume on the fender up to just before it starts to overdrive. then i use the blues driver as just a level boost leaving the gain at zero. this way when i stomp the pedal i'm just boosting my signal...

    firepod with sx2?

i run my firepod with sl2. these are the things i have to check when starting a project. device setup: vst multitrack - make sure that the ASIO is set to presonus firepod. devices: vst connections - set up your input and output busses. realize that the firepods main, cue and 1-2 outputs are...

    New Apple Powerbook

G4 powerbooks do not always have a DVR. you can use an external firewire burner. i would advise using an external firewire harddrive instead. the RPM on most external harddrives is faster than the RPM on the internal drive. it will bog down once you get too many tracks though. i use 1.25GB of...

Rode mics: looking to buy/who has used?

i bought an NT1a a while back and still use it as my main vocal mic. its a little hot on the high end but thats ok because it helps my falsetto punch through when i need it. it also sounds good on acoustic guitar and amps. definitely a good buy at 200.

"For playing Taylors, you get a negative rep point."

How do i find out where my Les Paul was made. I don't wanna be getting any neg rep points you know. I might have to go trade my Gibson in for one made in the "proper" factory.

    Tuning a bass

i might buy a bass today. i'm thinking about a fender jazz. i was just wondering if there were any tunings i should avoid. . . like F#(46.25Hz), G(98Hz), Bb(58.275Hz), F(176.4Hz) so if anyone can help me out with tunings that didn't work for them i'd be thankful. (this might keep the thread...

"For playing Taylors, you get a negative rep point."

i tend to have a stronger affinity to jumpingjacks and bottlerockets in the mailbox. i would never give someone negative rep points for which guitar they prefer. i have 2 taylors anyway.
