Yes, The Boss VF-1 Can provide great sounds for guitar and bass. I have one and I really like it. Also it has patches for vocal effects and a great acoustic guitar simulator. It has factory presets and user patches that allow you to tweak the sounds. Nice unit

Sorry Man, I really dont know what to tell you. My external Zip 250 has never given me a problem. But sometimes when I use the punch in/punchout footswitch my FD-8 will hang up aswell. If I unplug the footswitch and restart the unit it runs fine

Jon X has some good advice, another thing you might try is just close your eyes while you mixdown and just listen. Block everything else out and let your ears tell you what sounds good.

But if you can save your master recording on another medium, like my Zip 250 disk, why would you need a DAT. Wouldnt you always have a master to remix later? Then the CDR would be the way to go.

I have seen stand alone Phillips CD recorders going for about $275 on E-bay. I have the same problem. I have Alesis Point 7's which seem ok, but mixing down to cassette kind of sucks.

Thanks Hadez, I found out later last night that if I unplug the zip drive and wait a few minutes and plug it back in that it seems to reboot or something and then it works fine. Still a little pissed at Fostex for having a shitty customer service dept.
