    Favorite vox mic

LOL Dot. You're starting to sound like Brad Lyons where every "favorite" thing is at least $10k... :D Only kidding!!! That Sony sure does look sweet! My favorite vocal mic (right now) is the Soundelux u195. So far I've used it on 4 vocals and everytime, it just hits the spot. I also gotta...

    Mics and Synthesizers

Don't know about the Karma, but the Fantom X can do this. That's what I have. Although most keyboards don't have an XLR input, so you'd need an XLR to TRS jack.

    New Track options??

Is it possible to when creating a new track, copy all the settings from the previous track? For instance, I find myself tracking several different guitars or keys all with the same setup (same I/O)... it'd be nice if I could hold SHIFT or CNTRL or something and it would keep the same I/O from...

    Preamp vs. Fader

Not sure about the firepod, but you might just need a preamp. I use to have all kinds of gain problems back when I had a vs2480... The preamps were lousy.. I too had to get the trim around 4-5 o'clock for certain sessions. It annoyed me. Then I got a preamp and have all the headroom i...

    TUBE mic's:RODE K2 vs CAD VX2

I gotta throw a bone for the K2. It's amazing. I use to own a VS2480 and never could get great sounds out of the VS's preamps... I made some "good" sounds, but never "great"... until, I got me a K2. The thing blew me away. I wasn't expecting such rich clarity. I favor this mic for...

    Mastering plug-ins

I played with T-racks a little and liked it. However, I use my UAD-1 now to master my songs and feel I have much more control.

For those without a choice... mastering plugins?

For those without a choice... mastering plugins?

I know I know I know... It's not something I'm qualified to be doing. I totally agree. BUT, I'm doing a couple of simple/cheap CD's with like 2-3 vocals, acoustics, and barely any percussion. He's not even duplicating more than like 50 CD's. With that said... are there any somewhat effective...

    New Overheads for my studio

Honestly, I think they are ok. Being that the original post was to facilitate discussion on budget OH's, specifically I pointed out that for the $$, the B1's are incredible... FOR the money!

    New Overheads for my studio

Are you confusing the B1 with the C1? The C1 is notoriously known for it's "u87" sound and harshness. Whether you think it sounds like the u87 is up to you... However, the B1 is not near as harsh as the C1. I think you've confused them. ;)

    New Overheads for my studio

Well, now we're talking a matter of taste. MC-012's are great mics... However, I remember listening to a .wav of drums with those as OH's and just didn't like the sound. They just weren't my cup of tea. Here's the thread when I first learned about B1's as overheads...

    New Overheads for my studio

Absolutely, I totally agree. All I'm saying is that unless you got $600-$1k for SDC's as OH's you're better off with LDC's... not just for the OH's, but to pick up a good mix of the kit as well. Cheaper LDC's are way too bright/harsh IMO.

ideas on charging for my pro home studio

$35 an hour for pro??? What is your definition of pro? I don't know, maybe in Canada studios are that cheap. Most of the studios in Louisville are $60-$100/hr and they are dumps.

ideas on charging for my pro home studio

I started off at $35 an hour for "decent" sound. I say "decent" because I was learning still and I'm highly critical of my work. So far have finished 4 complete CD's and am doing some MAJOR upgrades to my frontend & completely changing my method of recording. I previously had a vs2480, but am...
