    Making drum loops sound realistic

I definitely don't think it's rocket surgery (lol) but obviously writing your own drums is time-consuming, particularly when accounting the time it takes to learn from scratch. While it's something I'd like to do in the future, at this moment in my life I only have so much time and have to pick...

    HD600 v Focal Spirit Pro v DT770 v Blue Mo-Fi v ATH-M50 - "mixing headphone" review

I have a tiny apartment with thin walls so monitors are out of the question and I needed a decent pair of headphones to at least give me a shot at making passable mixes. I think here, there's actually a great Audiofanzine comparison test, comparing 5 top headphones: AKG K702, BeyerDynamic DT880...

    Making drum loops sound realistic

I'm victim to EZdrummer loops. I'm not a drummer and have no access to a real kit, let alone a properly miked one. So sometimes, I just pick loops and accept that they will sound like ass. A fellow HRer provided some info to help remedy this sickness, and I think it would be useful for everyone...

Recording Levels -- a.k.a. PROPER recording levels

Just noticed you edited this after finding the link, but in case anyone else wants to take a quick look without searching for it: https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/user-contributions/using-klanghelm-vumt-plugin-track-optimal-levels-379205/ The advice my buddy gave me helped...

Using the Klanghelm VUMT plugin to track at optimal levels

This goes along with what MM said about avoiding recording too hot. A good friend of mine turned me onto this plugin as a means of tracking more effectively and efficiently back when I told him I'm going to get my hands dirty and try and learn a thing or two about mixing. It's really a great...

Recording Levels -- a.k.a. PROPER recording levels

Very helpful, indeed. I actually wanted to show a tip that a friend gave me that was kind of related, but I'll post it separately in the forum :)

    Borked optical drive

Actually, while this isn't the "protypical" type of thread I expected, it's perfect. Whenever you come across something helpful, put it here! Unless you're directly responding to a question within the rest of HR, i.e. someone asks "my optimal drive is cooked, help!", then this is the right...

Getting things started with my favorite EQ chart

Good idea. I'll add it to the list, but the new forum isn't just for compiling good, old resources, but filling it up as we read up and find more interesting stuff! But for the great resources over the years that have already made their way throughout HR, you can either comment here with the...

Mixing elements individually from EZDrummer 2 kit loops

Not to derail my own thread, but regarding listening to drummers, I've been doing that more lately, and there are some songs I don't like much but now that I'm listening specifically to the drums they just blow my mind. Case in point, yesterday I was walking and listening to some tunes, and...

Mixing elements individually from EZDrummer 2 kit loops

I prefer playing with real drummers :) My buddy back in California and I were always in synch with every jam, it really helped me play and produce ideas that were ahead of my ability. We were greater than the sum of our parts. Sucks not having a drummer like that to play with here in Paris...

Haha I'm glad you figured it out. Originally I wrote "click on the picture" but for whatever reason the post didn't work, so when I reposted it, I forgot to mention that the photo was linked. In any case, I'll update the post, thanks

Getting things started with my favorite EQ chart

That's the stage I'm currently in. Starting off using tips on which frequency ranges to adjust, then hopefully my ears will be trained to be able to intuitively react based on what I hear

You know I like Radiohead, don't you? Well here's another.

Great job addressing the bass in the new mix. You actually did a great job processing the vocals IMHO. I think the reason it doesn't sound 'right' is because Thom Yorke really eats his words when he sings. So here, the vocals hit the notes for the most part quite well, and are nicely processed...

Getting things started with my favorite EQ chart

I know these charts are far beneath many of you, but for a mixing noob like myself, I've skimmed through several and this interactive chart is the best imo:

    READ THIS before posting here

Hey guys, Often I'll find good reads or useful charts or tips on my free time (particularly while in the lou :D), and I'm sure the same goes for many of you. So this forum is created for members who would like to help each other out by posting miscellaneous tips, tricks and other useful...

Mixing elements individually from EZDrummer 2 kit loops

banned Thanks for the advice, that really helps clear things up for me. I'll give it a go over the weekend. Tonight we be jammin' :) Ya I know a bit about changing the timing, but I'm still too early in the game to worry about programming my own drums, so for now I'm just trying to find...

Mixing elements individually from EZDrummer 2 kit loops

I use the tap2find function in EZdrummer2 to find certain loops that match best with the ideas that I try and develop. I'm working on one song that, technically, would be my first real mix, as the several songs I made some 5-10 years ago were never, ever mixed... Anyway, obviously the loops...
