turn it up and your compression ratio goes up and compresses the signal, experiment with it and you'll see the difference. A good way to check how much you're compressing is on the left hand side of the unit on the front hit the meter button and it'll show you how much compression you're using.

I agree as well, even if you have home XP. Just drop in the CD with XP Pro and it will take you through the installation basics. When it re-boots it'll ask if you want to have a fresh install and erase the previous C:\windows directory or repair the previous install, just delete the old one...
