Suggestions for low power beginner amp?

Man, you can say that again. I started out playing through cheap stereo speakers and was happy to pickup a horrible Crate! For the same money now, you can have a fabulous tone by comparison and in many cases enough volume to handle small gigs.

Suggestions for low power beginner amp?

At ~$100 I'd suggest a Roland Cube 15 (note these are analog not the COSM modeling engine of the rest of the line), a Peavey VYPYR 15, or First Act VA850 (based around the excellent V-Stack circuit). Between $100 and $300 a Tech 21 Trademark 30, Fender Vibro Champ XD, or (new series) Peavey...

Blue "ball" mics? On sale-ish, any good?

I've got one. Not a bad mic. For guitar - think of it kinda like a SM57 with a little bump in the low mids. On voice - certainly adds a unique character. It's not my go to but would work for a color mic. Certainly look scool...;)

    Best Value Guitar Amps

If your dead set on an amp and need gigging volume. Here are a couple ideas: 1) Tech 21 Trademark 60 - Excellent very versitile amp with good low end response and plenty of clean headroom. Loud enough to hang with a full band if needed and has an XLR direct output if needed. 2) Line 6 Spider...

    Guitar magazines

Just let my Guitar Player subscription expire. I really like Guitarist out of the UK, but the US subscription price is around $100

What Are The Best Guitar Forums?

I must admit, I don't frequent the Amp forum. I hang mostly in the Guitar Forum. I must behind the curve when it comes to the hip forums; I've been a member over there since 2001. I prefer a forum with a little less moderation as it allows ideas to be exchanged which would otherwise be...

    Another Xaviere thread

I reviewed on of the butterscotch ash teles at www.frugalguitarist.com and they're very nicely built and great players. It'll be well worth the wait.

What Are The Best Guitar Forums?

Ultimate-Guitar.com is about the worst guitar forum I've been to. Moderation is extremely strict (I was banned for posting advertising due to posting a link to the Rondo site) and there are so many noobs spouting off like seasoned players ganging up on those with differing opinions. No likey...

    Good All round Dynamic mic?

There are semi treatments you can do rather than treat a whole room. on the super cheap you can take a milk crate and line it with a couple old blakets and put your mic inside it. A bit more expenive would be to built 2 baffles using a 2x4 frame and some insulation and stand them like an open...

    Good All round Dynamic mic?

If you're looking for a dry vocal sound, good luck using any condenser in an small (10 x 10) untreated room as even a fairly tight cardiod will pick up a good amount of reflection. Something like an SM57/58 (or the ES57/58 clones) are far less sensitive to your environment. So while the old...

    Fender Vibro-Champ XD?

Very good amps in my opinion if you're into Fender tones. The higher gain tones are decent as well, but not quite as inspiring.

    APEX 210 Quick Review

Haven't had a chance to test it out on drums yet, but the below clip features it on guitar and I'm pretty impressed with how it colors the tone. I also recorded some vocals with it and it's a good match for my voice (I'll have those clips next month with a full review in...

    6l6 options less than $500

BTW- Here's some links to clips I did to demo the Akita AT30 and Pignose G40v for FrugalGuitarist.com Here is a clip of the G40v with the gain cranked up. An SX SST57 was used in the number 4 position for the rhythm guitars and bridge position for the leads. The drums, bass, and acoustic...

    6l6 options less than $500

You're not going to find many options at that price point. Besides what's been listed there's the AXL Akita 30 which has a nice clean tone but I didn't care for the overdriven sound as much. This is actually a hybrid with a solid state preamp section and a 6L6 power amp section. You could...

    Best Mic under $150

I recorded my college bands promotional demo using a Shure SM57, a Samson bass drum mic, and the no name dynamic mentioned above. That initial demo was good enough to get us steady gigs and pass out promotionally. The SM57 was used on snare, all guitars including acoustic, and all vocals...

    Best Mic under $150

Wow! See taste is completely subjective as tubby isn't a word I would use to describe the SM57/58 at all. I feel the response is fairly even with a slight bump in the mids (perhaps low mids) with a roll off of the highs. I've used my SM57 on a ton of different things including acoustic guitar...

    Best Mic under $150

I must admit I haven't tried a mojority of the mics you've listed and I doubt anyone else has (perhaps a professional reviewer) as there's not really a compelling reason to buy so many affordable mics. Different mics do different things well. If you're really interested in reviews regarding...
