I know that the Allen and Heath's direct outs are pre fader and post EQ from the factory but I believe their is an internal jumper to make them post fader. Mixing while tracking may make applying compression and automation more difficult in the mix down phase.

If you ask me I think that it would be a good idea to invest in a pair of decent monitors. It sounds like what your using right now is making your job of mixing difficult because instead of EQing the audio that you are trying to mix you are stuck trying to correct for the system that you are...
I believe that will give you four mixes if that's what you want.
Here's one that will give you a single stereo mix with 4 headphone outputs which is I think is more of what your looking for.
PreSonus
I use Fl Studio for mix down and mastering but personally I think its terrible for tracking, since currently it puts everything it records is RAM and it only records stereo wav files even if the input is mono. So I use Tracktion 3 for tracking but found it not so great for mixdown/ mastering.
You probably don't want a limiter in this case, especially one with a really fast attack and release.
Using a multiband compressor might get you the result your looking for in this case.
I have used the Firepod which is an earlier version of the Firestudio and didn't have any problems with it, but maybe their quality has gone down.
Did you have the mics in a slightly different position when you recorded with the Soundcraft? That could have been a factor along with different...
I can't think of any Firewire 800 interfaces but I got a few Firewire 400 ones that I would suggest.
Mackie Blackbird
Presonus FP10
Presounus Firepod (old version of the FP10, if you can find this one used) I think some other company had already trademarked "Firepod" which why the name changed.
Add some EQ with something like a Q of 15 and boost it about 10 Db for what ever frequencies you choose, this creates some nice resonances and you could even apply some automation that sweeps it back and forth.
Warning: Not recommended for live sound use for obvious reasons.;)
A VCA works by varying the voltage of the audio signal when the audio signal reaches the threshold, hence the name Voltage Control Amplifier. This is done with solid state components.
Basically an opto comp, or optical compressor, works by using a light source which varies with the voltage of...
I recorded a band a band live and gave each of the members of the band a copy of the recording. We did pay performance royalties, but didn't pay any for a mechanical license for selling the CD because we have no intention of selling the CD.
Does this violate any copyright laws even though I'm...
The Mackie Onyx i series allow you to do multi-track recording via Frewire, also the Midas VeniceF series allows you to do the same. Allen and Heath's Z16R is less aimed at live use than the Mackie and the Midas but it will let you multi-track stuff. The largest Mackie is a 16x16, Midas a...
