I have a Multiface and I think it sucks that the gain increases very gradually when you turn the knob to the right but when you're at around 90%, the gain increases dramatically. It's virtually impossible to accurately set high gain levels. Or is it just my Multiface having that issue?
My bet is that it won't matter much for recording where you write long continuous streams of data.
NCQ is more beneficial for applications like databases where query results have to be compiled from data that's all over the hard drive.
Wrong. The power supply is there merely to power the internal electronics of the '69. You still need a preamp to get the signal up to a usable level. And welcome to the board. :)
There you go.
It's driving me mad seeing people freak out when it comes to 4200rpm hard drives in laptops.
Even in this day and age laptops are usually fitted with 4200rpm hard drives. So is mine. The first (and so far only) outdoor recording that I did with it (and an RME Fireface) was 4...
Even if that's the case (you can eliminate the need for balanced I/O when you keep the cables short), I'd take a bit of noise over clicks and pops any day. :)
It may be so that both hard drives share the same cable. Then just make sure that the original drive stays connected.
In other cases both drives are on separate cables so you won't have to worry about the original drive.
Just disconnect the second drive and you're done with it.
Hold your horses.
I know you're in IT (and so am I) but I think you should look into this a bit deeper.
SATA drives are just like ATA drives with a somewhat different interface, a slightly higher price (maybe 10% more) and comparable performance. Most SATA drives are mechanically the same as...
The Firepod is firewire 400.
The only firewire 800 device on the market now is the RME Fireface 800 (which by the way will also work as a firewire 400 device).
No worries, I didn't see it as slamming M-Audio at all. My point was exactly what you said in your second paragraph.
All I have to add is: Congrats with your choice. :)
By the way, I don't think M-Audio has to worry about breaking even on the Delta series. I'm sure they already did. The Deltas...
It only tells you that knowing about computers doesn't say anything about whether or not someone knows audio. But anyway....
M-Audio is a solid choice. I've used an Audiophile for over a year and it never failed me.
