    Stubborn band

i used to have the same problem before my studio moved, before i got fucked off with recording shitty garage bands for shitty money, and then getting shit cos you couldn't make someone who can't play sound good. i had a matamp ( 60's precursor to orange) going into a 4*12. the number of...

    miking a bass cab

remeber a 57 just past the grill will be about 4 inches from the cone, and horribly out of phase. try to find the next point where the two are in phase, often about a foot from the cab.

    TAC Preamps...

my mates got a tac, and i think his pres vary from channel to channel. Do all the pre amps sound the same? it is an old ( and very cool) desk, and might just need a service. i'd do that before investing in external pres. don't forget that it is an older pro console rather than new semi pro...

    Recording Advice Wanted

if your doing mobile those yamaha muilitracks certainly are pretty good. only 8 i/p but, as i found, it teaches you to get a good sound on a few mics ( plus you only have to buy 8 mics!). if you teamed that with some relativly cheap external pres ( a pair of those TL 4 channel things, or a...

    hardware vs software mixing?

i have to say the thing that makes the difference for me is outboard comp/eq and reverb. software just doesn't touch it to my ears- and all my hardware certainly not super highend stuff. I know many people who Go software because they think its cheaper, take this example: The new eventide TDM...

Active Monitors for Hip Hop Production.

the best moniters for any engineer/producer are the ones hes/she most comfortamble with. At the studios i regularly do stuff at one has NS10s amd big PMCs- which both sound fucking awful. not because the shit moniters ( well the PMCs) but because i'm not used to them. In my own setup i've got...

plus the digital audio on, for instance, a CD is filltered at 20k to avoid biasing below that from audio above that has been undersampled.

the best studio sound for drums

when your mixing try filtering the reverb down a bit. if you listern to real reverb it won't be as bright as the source. also filter the bass (80hz ish) to avoid the muddiness. put this reverb on the whole submix of the kit, the compress a submix of the reverb return, and origional drum submix...
