    Multiple inputs

I've seen a Motu 828 in action with a G4 powerbook recording 16tracks on two harddisks ... no problemos at all (24bit, 44kHz) Herwig

    Multiple inputs

www.staudio.com DSP24 card with a ADC/DAC2000 or ADC/DAC3000. The first has 8 unbalanced in/outputs with the first two doubled with preamps (€444) while the second has ADAT lightpipe and 8 balanced I/O and 8 preamps (+/- €1,000) Up to 4 cards in one system. Why would you ditch the Q10 ?? It's...

recording software that's not pro tools

A good friend of mine is a Logic Audio 6 user on Max OSX, but he sure misses his Digital Performer.. much more intuitive according to him.. Herwig

using different drivers for different applications

Errrr... guys, isn't ASIO and WDM something totally different ??? To my knowledge ASIO is an interface between a soundcard's drivers and software (like eg. Cubase), while WDM is a driver type ... (so actually: soundcard -> WDM -> ASIO -> program) I know for example that in my soundcards' WDM...

    Electric Upright Bass

Hi, If you're into salsa then electric upright is your way... if not.. well I'm not too fond of them.. Famous players ? I saw Chris Min Doh (or however you spell his name) tour *a lot* with his el.upright, as well as seen the bass player of Steve Coleman's band play on one... not my taste for...

Anybody tried this pc case dampening material?

I'm the sucker who actually bought one of those ... doesn't help imo... I've invested some good money in silencing computers and this is a list of what works (for me): - cpu cooler: Zalman flower cooler set at its lowest fan rate works (cpu temp 45-50°C) - northbridge cooler: Zalman fanless...

Poll: which mixer / soundcard do you use?

    sound card/software upgrade

Emagic was bought by mac and the last pc version is/was i believe 5.5 .. there's still support for logic on the PC but no new versions developed... (and imho there's simpler sequencer out there that perform the same as logic) Herwig

    KRK V8's

beatles vs stones mac vs pc KrK vs others ... I found Krk coloring in a way that i didn't like... As bruce said: monitoring is highly personal and subjective - the mixes I've heard from him sound good, though they're made on monitors I know I can't mix on... oh yeah, don't go out buying...

    Tuner Calibration

AFAIK most symfonic orchestras use 442-443 these days and I've heard it is common for soloists to tune 1 or 2 Hz above that, for improved 'clearness', 'sparkle' (tube warmth anyone  )... might try that in a rock setting: tune everything to 440 and have a soloist play his/her solo in...

    $4000-5000 budget for mixer

Man, that's a 24 version, and with the old power supply (grey housing).. the newer (black, CPS275) pumps out more power to the board, making it sound richer.. plus that's a lot of money. I guess there are better deals than that one. Herwig

how to record and mix 16 tracks? which audio interface?

Nobody seems to know these things: http://www.staudio.com DSP2000 and DSP3000 are breakout boxes for their DSP24 card, which can handle 10 in and out at a latency of 5ms, sometimes lower. I have one DSP2000 and have two more in the mail (up to four in one box)... at €444 a card you can't go...

    $4000-5000 budget for mixer

Just bought a Ghost 32 off ebay ... €3000, but thought it was a Mute version.. it wasn't so I got it for €2400 and I will add a Doepfer pocket midi fader, so I will have 16 midi faders on top of a 72ch desk which has already impressed everyone walking in my room. (FWIW: just saw a Ghost Mute 32...

    unballanced or ballanced patch cables

Nope. For a signal to be balanced you need a balancing transformer... you would need a device that takes the signal and ground of your guitar and transform that into a balanced signal (+signal, -signal and ground) .. also balanced signals have a completely different impedance than other...

    Professional Bass Forum?

Well... you surely got my interest, but I don't think I can justify a $5000 setup... I'm *very* satisfied with my $2700 setup I have now (SWR SM-400s + Goliath 4x10 cab) so I don't know if any amplifier will/can sound '$2300 better' ... I'm also moving into the league of people who get...

So what is Branford Marsalis doing here?

Errr... those are just some of the greatest musicians on this planet... hopefully they got the best studio's and engineers at their disposal. I'll return a question: have you ever heard Sting sound bad ?? I've had the lukc of seeing Wynton live on a jam session in Brussels last summer... the...

Continually Increasing Tempo on a Click Track

What do you use for your click track ? I think i found out once that Cubase has the possibility to 'speed up' ... somewhere in it's tempo map page... Isn't this a case of RTFM ? Herwig

What is the real difference between this Software Instrument Plug-in and this Sample

Errr... both Demo pages were *exactly* the same... so why not go for the cheapest :D (nice piano sounds though) Herwig

    kick replacement

some sequencers have the function audio to midi built-in (i think Logic has it, don't know if Cubase does it too), but supposedly a plugin called 'drumagog' can do that.. Hope this helps, Herwig
