    Soundcard for a laptop

The Emu thing is goofy. $400-500, and it only works with a laptop, and only has two pre's. Firepod has 8, and will work with a desktop too. Seems like they would have been wise to make it compatible with PCI and Cardbus, like Echo used to do.

This might be a dumb question but...

You need this: http://www.graphtech.com/prodghost.htm this: http://www.rolandus.com/products/details.asp?catid=6&subcatid=0&prodid=GI%2D20 and a Soft synth program like Reason. It works quite well, with Reason anyway. I tried it with a Roland ready strat with Reason, and it was cool. The...

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

Shit, you're right; the NF4 is the only dual core Athlon chipset right now. Good thing I didn't do what I was going to do. I was going to get a KT890-based board, buy a A64 3200+, then later when the multicores came down in price, pop one of those in. I sure as hell won't be getting an NF4...

Upgrade to 768mb or 1.25gb of RAM!?!?!

1 gig dude. All the F'in way! It's nice having it; I never thought it would make that much difference, but I think it does now, after finally doing it.

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

I brought probability into it, because probability is always a factor to consider when discussing hardware failure. In my opinion, it's not something to be ignored, whether your talking about losing the song you wrote about your sweetheart on your home PC, or losing the financial records for...

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

I would be cautious of using ATI chipsets for Presonus gear. Their website states issues with a previous ATI chipset. You might want to contact Presonus first, and ask about the 200M chipset being used in the Compaq.

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

I guess you still don't understand basic math. 2 drives striped is less reliable, because having a second mechanical device sharing data with another device makes the odds of failure twice as high. 1 drive has data. You add another drive that effectively shares that data via striping. You're...

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

OK, I'll go ahead and do that. RAID 0 shouldn't even be called RAID, because it's not redundant. The data is striped across two drives, and that's why it is fast. But if you lose one drive, ALL of your data is lost, because you can't salvage a partial RAID 0 array. If you want striping and...

Also keep in mind that RAID 0 is less reliable than a single drive. If either drive crashes, you've lost all your data. Make sure you have a way of backing things up if you do this.

    Echo Mia sound card

Easiest thing is to go to Guitar Center and get a $50 Behringer mixer to run the outs from the Mia to. Then the outs from that to the monitors, and the headphones from the mixer as well. Since the sound is already on the way out, it's not going to color the recordings.

I guess you're a gamer then, but it serves little purpose in the audio realm. But it'll work.

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

Well take a look at it. http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=246 How many other boards have 3 fans like that?

    New Computer!! ...good for recording??

That board is the worst audio board available. Not because of compatibility, but because it'll be louder than a freight train. Your 2.2ghz 64bit does not mean it will run like a 4400+ 32bit. Don't worry though, it's more than fast enough. The Delta 66 is not compatible with PCI-E. Use the...

Ibook 500mhz 384mb ram + what audio interface?

The lower end Macs and laptops will be out next year. 64-bits, if you've read anything about it, does make a significant difference when you're running a 64bit OS with 64bit software.

    can you help me out????

Not a bad idea, except that it's a very expensive and non-portable option to the Tascam, which also has available Sonar templates.

Ibook 500mhz 384mb ram + what audio interface?

When you say they're going to Mac, do you mean they're going to Mac but using Pro Tools, or they're going to Mac and using Logic or DP? Because you'd be much better off with a Gateway M250 or something similar with a Centrino setup, running Pro Tools LE (if that's indeed what the studio uses...
