i'm getting better at recording audio, but i don't have the first clue about midi. i have a cable and a midi ready keyboard. i want to start using it to make some cool synth sounds and to build drum loops. i use a digi 001. what software to i need, what additional hardware could i use? any...
i don't think you're gay (it's just fun to make fun), but come on the pres you suggested don't even compare to each other. it's like if i ask what's the best guitar...

* an ovation (any model they all suck)

please don't insult william shatner by even suggesting he would take the stage with an arrogant overrated 'diva' like celine dion.
oh yeah, the midget died a couple years ago that's why he's not in the band (i hate kid rock, but i love behind the music that's the only reason i know)
on further inspection, the guitars do sound pretty cool. the drums sound sucky. the mix is crap. and the songs blow. but i'll give them credit for cool sounding guitars.
i tried a search, but "reason" brings up too many things. i was just wondering what everyone thought of the program and what they use it for and how realistic it sounds etc...Thanks.
back to the original topic . . .
all the pro's i've met or worked with were super cool. they were really encouraging. they realized this is an art and artists take time to develop, and to learn their trade. from what i've experienced, thye have been great guys to work with. actually most...
once you guys make all your toob products, i'll make a digital plug in that sounds like a crappy metalic version. and i'll make an outboard hardware modeler of each of your pieces.
i don't know anything about midi, but i thought the sound bank that came with reason had the keyboard sounds, then you'd just need a controller. is that right? cause i was thinking of getting into this too.
if you listen loud enough you can blow out your ears then it doesn't sound so bad. i gave it a little burn in period, and my initial evaluation (this album sucks) was wrong...it actually blows harder than hurricane andrew.
i think you nailed it 'intelligent EQ'. don't expect these things to revolutionize your mic. they may add some nice sound, but i look at all thes modelers as fun toys that SOMETIMES add a cool effect or EQ and they only work if you have lots of time to mess around with the sound.
what are battles?
from what i know of battles i'd rather take a sword or a gun than a microphone...you can probably pick up some used swords on ebay for under $100.
or get the sm57/58 i prefer the 57 (it sounds cooler and looks cooler), but the 58 is probably better suited for going to battle...
i use wave bundles in protools. i typically like
compressors - rcl and c1
eq - REQ 6/10 and Q10/4
limiters - L1
reverbs - Rverb and True verb
most everything else is really limited in usage and/or quality.
what do you think of the waves stuff? and which ones are transparent/colored etc...
doubling guitars works well for hard rock and metal, but i've found it sorta sucks for regular rock and roll. the trick i use may not be 'right', but it works for me. i put about 4 or 6 mics around the guitar (half close/half far) and find the combination of two that work the best. sometimes...
