I have a mercenary audio sm-58.....actually sent my own 58 to them to alter...I believe that the $15 difference has to do with the level of difficulty in the installation of the transformer......

....thank you....my 2488 mkll is new to me (coming from a dp01-fxcd). I had assumed that the bit depth went to 16 during mastering.....I now notice the "24" in the upper right corner of the pre-master screen....much to learn about this machine....

I didn't know it was possible to do a stereo mix in 24 bit with a 2488....is this done in pre-master mode?

for the past few days I've been recording with a Shure sm-58 with a Tab Funkenwerks transformer installed.....it's pretty impressive....

.....just dug deep into the drawer of old microphones and grabbed a pair of Sony electret condenser mics - ecm-22p's....tried a stereo (x,y) set up on acoustic guitar....pretty impressive for a couple of 35 year old, relatively inexpensive mics.....

$100 or so will get you an AKG c1000 on ebay.....nice small diaphragm condenser.....

I don't know what they changed when the model was "upgraded" from the Perception 150, but I tried a pair of those and never was able to get a good stereo acoustic guitar sound.....I'm now using a pair of AKG c1000's, bought used for about the same price as new 150's - they are vastly superior...

I've offered to record a song for a local bluegrass group. They are a 4 piece, high energy group and this song will be done on a Tascam 2488 mk ll in my livingroom.....my idea is to record the group live, with all four guys facing each other and with just a lead vocal track - 5 tracks in...

it has much better pre amps than the dp01....with the dp01 I needed to use an external pre amp to record at a decent volume....

the manual for this machine confuses me.....can an external compressor be connected to the external effects out return through the stereo "ins"?...if so, that wouldn't seem to give a great deal of control during final mix....anyone here used a compressor with the dp01?

I guess that what I really want to know is, will my finished/mastered product have volume equal to a recording that is done in 24 bit?
