    Country Rock track

Thanks Trip. Chris is on Facebook and posts regularly. Al is also there, but doesn't post as regularly. Both seem to be doing pretty well. If you're on FB and want to connect, LMK. I'll PM ya. Join the club! We have a Dragon Cave group there... several people from the early 2000s in there.

    last mix of album

I think the issue with the snare is too short of an attack... the transient is only coming through halfway, it sounds to me. An attack more around 13 to 15ms would probably give the snare transient more presence/weight and make it sound less like "tik tak tik tak." Pretty full sounding tune...

It's a good thing - "New" VHS song

That's some super dry production. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of compression here either. They Might Be Giants are an influence, possibly? Might be some timing issues in the choruses... are the drums live? (Sorry, haven't really read the thread). The growl guitars sound a bit...

    Country Rock track

Thanks for the feedback everybody. Bass may sound loud on some systems; the song seems too trebly on a cell phone. It's a game of balance. Is it not a good idea to get mix feedback after a master? I think that's probably a good time to get feedback :)

    Bored in San Antone

Cool tune... bass sounds over compressed... fast attack, super long release. It's pumping. I have to disagree on the bass with most posters here. Vox sound very dry despite delays... guess it's a preference thing. I like the tune overall... reminds me a little more of Talking Heads than San...

    The Way To You (Acoustic)

Nice rhythms. Guitar sounds OK... are you compressing it? If so sounds like a long-ish attack and short release, which makes the tails of each gtr note noisier. If it were my mix I'd shorten attack to maybe 2ms and lengthen release to at least 80ms. Electro mode only--depending on which...

Thanks fellas. Steve's right on the money again (as he always was back in the day)... bass tone is something I was thinking about too. The piano is the Giant (NI Instruments) and it probably sounds sterile because I have the tone setting too aggressive/percussive. I should probably just mic up...

    Mixing feedback please (medium-tempo acoustic)

Nice jazzy piano piece. Agree that the snare hits (not the side stick) sound a bit weird. Are you hitting this with a limiter? Sounds like your threshold is just destroying the snare hits, making the snare sound tiny.

Nujabes Type Beat (Critique and Feedback appreciated)

I dig the jazzy feel. The flute sounds good, but a little dry. Maybe some reverb that blended it in with the other instruments would help it. Agreed with Trip that the vocal has some harshness to it (the "guess who made it" line). There's a plugin called "Acon DeFilter" that I'd like to try on...

    A remaster ... thoughts?

Good sound overall IMO... the balances are almost there. The one distracting thing for me are the cymbals (hats/crash) in the choruses. They seem too loud in many spots. Also they seem a bit busy almost in those same spots, almost like a simpler pattern would have worked better. In terms of the...

Tried to listen, but it looks like the track has to be downloaded and not streamed. I'll check back later in case you add a link for streaming

    Making L O F I HipHop VIDEO!

It's a nice, simple tune. Interesting concept with the fish eye lens... a real "bedroom recording." Also listened to the track in your sig: I'm not up on the latest in the genre (hip-hop styles)... but the rap is pretty good, nice flow. The female vocal sounds nice.

Thanks for the listens guys. The guitars (one dark, one bright) was intentional. They were both tracked 22 years ago to 4-track cassette. I thought about re-recording them, but then realized that the performances were fine. Timing issues might arise because the tracks were pulled from the...

Is this mix fatiguing? Or are my ears toast?

I like the dry vox--sounds classic. Vocal brightness isn't necessarily the be-all/end-all. The point is I can make out all the words, and the emotion comes through. When it comes to 'value judgments' on a mix (taste/etc) I take the approach of "trust yourself 80% of the way." Objective mix...

Your Sympathy - alternative pop rock

I listened to this last night. It seems well produced.

    Orbit

Nice tune... the upbeat guitars put a smile on my face. As with most commentary these days, I refrain from value judgments and just bounce the question back to the artist--does the music say what you intended? If you enjoyed it, then that is the first duty. Everything else after that is gravy...

Recording drums for my son's college projects.

Nice recording (latest one from post #5). Guitar reminds me of Minus the Bear or even David Gilmour. Bass might be a bit loud in spots.

Sounds cool. A little harshness around 3.5K, but cool tones. Small dip in the eq and it's gold.
