    Re-Amping options

Only thing, the line level signal coming out of my 002r will be a lot hotter than the mic level signal coming out of a typical passive DI. So wouldn’t the signal coming out of the DI to the amp now be a lot hotter than what normally comes out? What are the ramifications of this? Damage DI? Lower...

    Re-Amping options

Thanks for the replies so far... AlexW I'm sure the Little Lab's Red Eye works well but I'd like to explore cheaper options first. Any other suggestions would be great. wishtheend We're not talking about the same thing. I'm not looking to split the signal at the time of performance, I want to...

Lundahl transformer vs electrolytics on preamp input

how does one gain enough knowledge to feel confident to do DIY preamps? I'd love to learn but I think I'd need some basic EE concepts covered before anything else. Any suggestions? Community College, Books, Web sites?

    Re-Amping options

Hi All, Are there any other options, preferably cheaper yet still sonically good, to the ReAmp or Radial's X-Amp? May be DIY? I whant to record bass guitar direct and mic the amp later - thinking this will help bleed while tracking in my small space. Thanks in advance

How can one tell if a drum is made of Birch or Maple?

I think, judging by the logo badge, a red "P" against a black background, it's from the late 90's. I certainly could be wrong. still working on a pic.

How can one tell if a drum is made of Birch or Maple?

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the two. I'll see what I can do about a picture. The drum is by Premier if it helps. It's an opaque yellowish stain job...sorry I'm not better in my description.

How can one tell if a drum is made of Birch or Maple?

I'm looking at a used kick drum, but neither I or the shop owner can tell what kind of wood the drum is made of. What is the difference in visual appearance between Birch and Maple? There are no markings on the labeling, infact the series name doesn't appear. Any help is appreciated.

"That Mic was On?!"...Major Label Mistakes

No, it's definately in the voice. It's when she sings "Now you're lookin' like I used to" actually it starts at 3:08.075 ish and continues to 3:11.

"That Mic was On?!"...Major Label Mistakes

Check out the digital distrotion on the vocal mic on No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom album. Gwen's mic flips out at 3:10 on "Sunday Morning" really badly. Kinda suprised thay let it go.

    i need lavaliers, suggestions?

These aren't wireless, but my Sony ECM 50 (I think that's the model #) gets a lot of use. They sound good and have a lot of uses beyond lapel mics (for instance they're on the beater side of my bass drum tracks). They're no longer in production, but Sony has made a few newer models to replace...

Stedman Pop Filter? Yay or Nay.....

I agree, the air noise can be an issue and should not be overlooked by someone in the market. If you have anyone whistling or even "ooooo"ing it can be an issue as well. I'd have another nylon one handy just in case.

    Ribbon Mics Useful?

I got one and performed the Lundhal transformer modification from the Tape Op article. It was pretty interesting. It's not a RCA now, but it's definitely more useable. Clearer overall and a lot less tubby, but definitely not the workhorse studio mic one would hope for. BTW, it’s GREAT on...

    Choir/vocal mic suggestions?

I've never had the pleasure, but I've read the Shure KSM 32 is rather good for both applications. I read it here on Digidesign's DUC. DIGI DUC I know they're expensive...sorry if I'm blowing your budget... Other than that, I have heard of people using their Oktava 012's as vocal mics too -...

    old school ribbon mics

You mentioned an "older" sound to which I might recommend the Oktava ML-52. Its character has a lower fidelity quality but in a good way - to my ears at least. Tape Op recently did a DIY improvement one could do. I did it to mine and it did get better while still retaining the character of the...
