    Oktave MK012s or Rode NT-5s?

As to the shock mounts, I'd look to another brand other than Oktava. The three Oktava mics i own, they all have very cheap metal for their clips which means the threads will strip out before too long. I can imagine the Oktava shock mounts would be the same.

    Oktave MK012s or Rode NT-5s?

Can't speak for the NT5's but the Russian Oktava's are great for that job. They start out very well suited for OH work, but if you get a chance to do the Dorsey Mod (though there's rumors that the new Russian ones are already improved in this way) they're a whole new animal.

    Event 20/20's w/ TA1600 or original krk v6's???

I had the exact same 20/20 Hafler set up. I got a lot of mileage out of it. Then I scored a Hafler P3000 on eBay and the sound opened up even further. I think the 20/20 Hafler combo is a good bet. There's also the option of upgrading the amp at a later date. Who knows what a Bryston would do for...

    i wann'a tell u something 'bout PRESONUS MP20

I felt the same way about midrange gear when I moved from my ART Tube MP and Yamaha MG pre's to a mid level pre. It was a good step forward but not the last step I took. I eventually grew enough to notice the limitation. Don't be discouraged by this thread, threshhold2. Enjoy what you have and...

oldies but goodies, looking for older rack synths and modules...

I've searched and searched with no luck. I'm mostly looking for a good piano (acoustic and electric) and organ sounds. Are there any older rack modules/synths that do a good job and won't break the bank? I'd love to see myself in a Motif but I think a little research might reveal a forgotten...

FA: Yamaha NS-10T's (home version of the NS-10M

Up for auction is a pair of passive NS-10T's. They sound very similar to the 10M's if your curious. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7374587299&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks.

    dbx 386 mic pre?

I owned one and it served my needs at the time, but I quickly out grew it. I found it necessary to keep the input gain low and make up the gain on the output knob. That's the cleanest option this pre can offer, though it's not saying much. I did keep it around for a AD for a while for a couple...

    Do I Need A Pre-amp? Need A Mic, My Budget Is $500

It would also be a good idea to look at your environment. If you are recording in a room with untreated walls/ceiling, it's very likely the reflections are coloring your sound. That may be more the source of your problem. Try hanging a few packaging blankets around you to form a DIY isolation...

Replacement pot for my Marshall Valvestate 8080

Hello, The volume potentiometer my 8080's boost channel snapped off at the nut holding it to the chasis. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron and I thought I'd replace it myself. Any idea what the replacement part is? thanks

    Custom Cables

Neutrik are very good. Depending on your drum mic's you may want to consider a right angled female XLR's. It could save you a couple of inches in a tight set up. I always go with the gold plated black Neutrik connectors. Not sure if the gold plate is helping or not. It may be wasted money...

    Super tall mic stands

For location ensemble recording/archiving, what are you guys using for tall mic stands? I've only seen the Quikloc and the Shure ones. Are there others one should consider? Thanks in advance.

    Preamp for recording acoustic material

The two "School Recital" examples were recorded with a stereo pair of cardioid Earthworks and the Millennia Media Quad which is the HV-3B. Couldn't tell you what the difference is between the "B" and the "C". www.woodstockrecordingservices.com I had just acquired the unit before the time of...

    2 Mics Too Nice

You mentioned saxophone "fire" and I thought I'd throw in by 2 bits. I've been recording my tenor sax lately with an Earthworks SR71 (today's SR30?) and it translated the energy well. Other times, the NTK has been a winner too. Though I'd share.

    WM-60AY in stock (130pcs)

I went with the Tape Op directions. Can't speak highly enough of these mics, not great in every situation (seemed a little dull for overheads as compared to my oktava's), but really good in many! I use it to record my practice sessions with my tenor sax all the time. Perhaps it's the omni...

    WM-60AY in stock (130pcs)

I just used the 61's to build a pair and I was really impressed! Can't comment on the other ones but the 61's seem to do the job well. I can't believe mic's I built with my own two clumsy hands sound so good. enjoy the project.

splitting signal from mic and phantom power

Hello, I plan to split a pair of microphone signals to two different mixers. From what I've read, merely "Y"-ing the chord should suffice rather than transformer isolate the signals. The qustion I still don't have answered is only one mixer should have the phantom power on, right? What would...
