"Breaking In" headphones & monitors--any truth there?

Just to add some personal experience, I think there is something to speaker break in - not only on larger drivers. Not to long ago, a good friend and audiophyle had to get his Martin Logan electrostatic pannels replaced. We both noticed three different - subtle - sounds. One before the...

    Renting Mics

Full Compass has some for rent, though not a huge inventory. I've never used them for rental as of yet, but they advertise that they'll ship them to you. www.fullcompass.com

    RNP vs. MS1b vs. stock 002r pre's

Does anyone feel that any of these pre's (MS1b, RNP, or stick with the 002r's pre's) would be hands down "better" overall? I'm kind of stuck as to my next move in my preamp expansion. I'm sure I'll get a range of answeres, but perhaps there is a consensus that I'm not aware of. If it helps, I...

    stereo mics

I've used that Shure VP88 too. Very good for stereo recording! I'm sure there are better - and more expensive - options. But I feel it's a great value considering quality and ease of use.

    EQing advice for drum overheads

I just had this exact situation. I only realised the issue after tracking, and found my self in the same quandry. What I did was boost 125hz with a medium wide Q a dB or two and cut 1.9KHZ, with a wide Q about 4dB. In My situation that left the toms' fundemental tone while cutting some unwanted...

Acoustic Guitar With My New Earthworks...

If your room does indeed "blow" try a trick that I picked up from one of these forums. Drape moving blankets over boom mic stands set up like a "T". Then surround yourself with them - an improvised isolation booth. I just used a single SR71 on acoustic about 10 days ago. We went 6-8 inches...

    do your ears ring 24-7?

I've had a low noise - sometimes ringing - in my ears all my life. Though I do remember one day in 4th grade it stopped. The class was working on a test so the room was silent too. I nearly went out of my mind cause I thought I lost my hearing. For a few moments, I heard what complete silence...

    Musicians Friend Rack Cases

With the lids on it's around 25". Without lids, it only has around 17" of usable depth space. I'm speaking for my 4 space one at least. I wouldn't "test" this cases durability either. It seems to be kinda cheaply made but it get's the job done.

condenser mics for stereo micing of ensemble

I'd really look into the Shure VP88! I used it to record many ensembles back in college. It records in the MS config. Really revealing but not really cheap.

    Kick Drum mic'ing technique

Frequently, I can't get a good "polished" kick drum sound that fits in the mix with my Beta 52 into my 002r or HHB pres'. Once I had a good result with a double headed BD muted on the non-batterhead sided with a pillow and also creating a "tent" of mic stands and heavy blankets. That worked...

    piano mic recommendation

I had a lot of success with Crown PZM's in a similar application. Set up time can be minimal since the mics can be taped under the lid. Placement will be key, but a little experimenting will yeild good results. Plus your audience won't have gangly chords and stands to distract them. good luck

    vintage microphone repair

I have a old (60's?) Sennheiser 441 that needs repair. My guess is the diaphram is fine but the electronic internals are going. Does anyone know who I can turn to? Anyone want to ball park a guess what this could cost me? I know it's impossible to say, but perhaps someone here can post...

    Miniature tom mics?

This sound company I used to work for used the original SM98's on toms nearly all the time. The floor tom usually got a 421 though. I think you'll be really happy with them. Great tone and attack with a really small profile. IMHO you can't go wrong.

    RNC settings and opinions...

Go to their website, they have some suggestions there. I've always had a tough time using the "supernice" mode. The release seems to be trippled. Hard to tweek.

    TL Audio

I have the 4 channel Series 1 (re-branded as HHB Radius 10) and I love it! It's really made a big difference in my recordings (I was using a DBX 386 before). The tracking I've attempted with this unit as the main source have really helped me move up a level. Very usable. The only drag is at...

    alto sax mics

I'm a reed player too (alto and tenor mostly), and I've had really good results with my NTK. The sax is a tough nut to crack when recording, though. You're probably already aware, a few inches difference in microphone position can result in a really big tonal change. So if you get some time to...

    Anyone else using Event monitors?

For the longest time I thought my 20/20's were not so good. That is until I tuned my room a bit and upgraded amps. My mixes always suffered from boomy lowend when played on other systems. On a hunch, I tried some corner bass absorbers and other acoustic foam to minimise secondary reflections...

TL Audio 5001 quad pre amp

I have the HHB Radius 10 which is the exact same thing only rebranded for sales in the US. I can't speak for the second version, but if I ever see a deal on another Radius 10, I'll be picking it up. Really nice stuff. Warm and functional! I use it on nearly everything.

Can anyone tell me about the Sony C22 FET?

I've searched and searched which yeilded little to no information. Does anyone know anything about this microphone? Any information would be helpful. Thanks
