    bass drum microphone

I voted D-112, I've got one, never let me down, but I used an RE-20 in a previous studio and loved it on kick drum, upright bass, any horn, and some vocals. If you ever need to do voice overs or poetry, this is the beast. Hence, more variety than a D-112.

    Modern mastering sounds great ! ! !

I think that is part of the problem, now that you can see the wave in a digital editor, everyone gets paid by how much their sound wave resembles a 2x4.... slap that digital limiter in there and crush it into submission.... and them maybe listen to it... the really good MEs can get away with it...

    Mastering CDR Questions

Couple of questions- 1) When making a master for replication, what is the importance of using a higher-end, stand alone, drive, vs. a standard run-of-the- mill pop it in your chassis cdr? 2) Does it matter what software you use for the burn? 3) How does disc quality come into play? are there...

ADAT "no good TC" Error 7 issue

OK, so i have not worked with ADATs in about 4 years, and I got an XT-20, and it was working great. Then some hiccups started happneing and so I thought, well, I'll clean the heads. I happened to see on Musicians Friend that they had a head cleaning tape for ADATs. I called them up and asked...

    Miking drums, need help PLEASE

I second the motion (or third???) for the octavas mc012's. You are right, having the two ECM 8000s in an XY will most likely not do much for you, as they are in Omni. They will be picking up practically the exact same signal! Either get a pair of ECM 8000s and space them following the 3-1 rule...

How many of you actually record for a living?

Go freelance. Or work for a major studio that will promise you enough money to live comfortably. (you gotta have mad skillz for that) Owning a studio can be a money pit if you do not have an established client base (read- 20-30 regular clients) and working as a house engineer for a smaller...

    tweaks- fact or fiction?

well, it's about $60 to conepoint both speakers, so i will try it out and let you all know if i hear a desireable difference. I do have decent speakers (Tannoy PBM 6.5s) good quality speaker stands, filled with pebbles, so we'll see if this helps at all...

    tweaks- fact or fiction?

OK, here is an example of one of the products- http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/tweaks/cones.html and here is a review of those products- http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/tweaks/review_stereotimes.html I'm just wondering if anyone here has used them in studio use, rather than home use...

    tweaks- fact or fiction?

OK, so audiophiles are always buying various "tweaks" to increase the quality of their recordings. sitting your various pieces on brass cone points, using maple platforms, putting heavy weights on top of equipment to dampen the nasty vibrations, etc. one of the brands I am more familiar with is...

    ADAT/ TM-D1000 Question

HMMM... i thought that the imbeded signal was not accurate, hence the need for a superclock... anyone? I have used the TDM 100 and while I'm usually a big fan of TASCAM stuff I would stay the hell away from that nightmare mixer...sorry if you already paid for it. If you aren't familar with...
