Help with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Aardvark 24/96

I did read that earlier... I had forgotten about it, and only logged on last time to report success. I did download the Echo Reporter a while back as part of testing my system for home recording plausibility. I think it may give the same data as HDTach, but I will check out the link, as HDTach...

Help with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Aardvark 24/96

Looks good... at least for now. It turns out that drivers version 5.12 were included with the 24/96. After upgrading the drivers to 5.14 (current), it seems as though things are working better. A few dropouts, but during playback, not recording. Hopefully, that should do it.

Help with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Aardvark 24/96

I tracked a couple of other "test" songs, all audio. The first one went perfectly. After that, I un- and re-installed Cakewalk in an attempt to fix a problem, which I ended up solving by restoring the default settings in the Aardvark software mixer. The second song was a little more sluggish...

Help with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Aardvark 24/96

I believe I have the answers, though I didn't check using the utilities. I didn't mention it, but I am fairly computer-savvy. Cakewalk's readouts indicated minimal CPU and disk resources being used. I'm not sure if this is a direct reflection of the system's status, however. I know where to...

Help with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and Aardvark 24/96

I recently purchased an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 card/box combo, which came with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I have the Aardvark card and software mixer installed and running, as well as Pro Audio 9. However, recently I haven't been able to get past one track without having it "pop" and lose sync...

Event PS-6 or JBL LSR25P studio monitors?

Excellent, Gidge. That's a major piece of information I've been lacking in my search. From listening to all of the monitors, I liked the clarity of the LSR25Ps the best, and could hear the bass in the mix, just not in booming fashion. My concern was that this indicated poor response in lower...

Event PS-6 or JBL LSR25P studio monitors?

In the great and noble Quest For Monitors, I seem to have narrowed it down to two primary choices - the Event PS-6 and JBL LSR25P monitors. Both are powered monitors under $600, with the PS-6s costing a little more than the LSR25Ps. First, what I've noticed by listening to them. The LSR25P...

    Converter naming competition

Yes, I'm late. I know. I just found this thread, and it's a blast. For a real effort, how about... Lucidity ADX or, for those who need the company name in there... Lucid ADX or Lucid Lucidity ADX If you wanted to get the Trek market, you could call it Lucid DAX Now for the fun ones...

    Home Studio Keyboard Recommendations

Thank you. Given the options, it was definitely the best of the bunch. However, I'm re-evaluating the number of keys I really need - 76 is a bit more limiting than I'd anticipated, and I do actually miss the piano feel. Can you say "QS8.1"? :D P.S. - I have the Eurodance QCard's demo in...

first tune with Sonar (and other new gear)!

Um, Not to pick nits... but that was me :p. I thought you might appreciate the Perfect Circle reference. And don't worry about the "Mustaine-esque" vocals... sing the way you sing, and the end result will be much better than if you try to "force" a style. As for the Prong comparison, it's...

first tune with Sonar (and other new gear)!

brokenwindow Actually, if I had to compare this song's sound to that of a band, I'd have to go with Prong, at least instrumentally. There is, however, a bit of a "Mustaine-esque" quality to the vocals. For a more current instrumental parallel, I'd go with A Perfect Circle.

    Home Studio Keyboard Recommendations

langleyt Actually, I've run the gamut... this thread is a good chronology of "scaling up" one's price ceiling and expectations for a keyboard. Step 1: Yamaha PSR-540 (had been looking at it for a while) Step 2: Quick glance at Yamaha/Roland low-end boards, then to Fatar SL-161/Roland jv-1010...

New one... Honest comments, please. Remixing next week based on what you have to say.

Much better This version seems a lot more balanced. I think that toning down the bass definitely helped curb the "left-heavy" quality of the song. I listened through the same headphones, and it seemed more balanced - the mix still seems to lean a little bit left, but not much. Bringing the...

first tune with Sonar (and other new gear)!

When I said "couch" the vocals, it was a general comment. The vocal track seemed to "stand out" from the rest of the parts, possibly due to the high treble content of the vocals (as mentioned). It's entirely possible that, once you've come up with the proper tweak for vocal production, that...

first tune with Sonar (and other new gear)!

On second thought/listen, the "stutter" does work, but would probably be helped by having it drop out on 16ths. In other words, if the stutter was synced up rhythmically with the song. Just a thought.

On the jv-1010? I didn't really play around with it much. The few times I did, I wasn't all that impressed. However, a lot of other people seem to like the sounds. Sound tends to be subjective. The best thing to do is find a place where you can try the jv-1010. If you like the sounds, then...

first tune with Sonar (and other new gear)!

Nice. Well done! I second a lot of other comments about the vocals... somehow, they don't seem to "fit", and definitely stray towards the high frequencies. As for the "stutter", I think it worked well on the instrumental, but may have been a bit much on the vocal... the scream by itself might...

    Home Studio Keyboard Recommendations

rogerwilco I never tried out the RS-5, though I did see it in my travels, so I really couldn't say what many of the differences are between that and the S03. One of the obvious ones is the "all-in-one" pitch/modulation controller on the RS-5, which replaces the pitch and modulation wheels. I...

    Home Recording Solution - opinions?

Eebaf Two more words: No Worries (and Never Will) :D Pro Sound advice, and definitely something to keep in mind. However, I am cautious in my purchases, but I keep an open mind, and know a good deal when I see one. Case and point: I recently finalized my synthesizer purchase: an Alesis...

    Home Studio Keyboard Recommendations

The deciding factors were, in no particular order, number of keys, keyboard action, sound quality, flexibility, and (as stated before) price. As for the S03, it was out of the running fairly early due to its poor (practically nonexistent) keyboard action and lack of flexibility (computer voice...
