Yeah, firewire has zero to do with how the information is going to organize itself once in Cubase. You could definitely set it to do that, but you'd have the same problem that you'd have with that other alesis mixer that you posted if you attempt to record the band live - instruments bleeding...
You'd have everything on separate tracks, yes, but i believe laststarttoshine was simply saying that the tracks would bleed together a TON. Unless you were able to isolate every instrument in a separate, soundproof room and still record all at the same time, you would have bits of guitar on your...
What recording program are you using/considering purchasing? Th mic and software that come with the fast track are definitely a no-go; you'll trash them both within a week. What kinda budget are we looking at here, and do you ever plan on using instruments/more than one input simultaneously?
Solid advice. Never stop messing around with the order of your pedals - you can come up with some really creative stuff when you stir things up a bit by shifting pedals around. It all comes down to what sound you like, not what the 'right' order for the pedals is supposed to be.
What kind of guitar do you have? What kind of sound are you going for, and what type of music are you talking about recording? What program are you using to edit it, and what kinda mic are you using on it?
More details = easier to respond to
Usually, the effects come before the preamp, but it really depends on what kind of effects you are running and what you want to do with the preamp. Do you plan on adding distortion with the preamp? Then run the preamp before the effects, especially if you're mainly using modulation/echo effects...
To sweeten up the sound a little, try using a nice preamp. I have a friend who swears by avalon pres for his bass, and the U5 doesn't get a bad rap for under $600.
I totally agree as far as most acoustic amps sounding like trash. I've tried everything that i've been able to find locally (carvin, fishman, fender, etc.) with little to no luck. I did like the Roland AC60 in comparison with the other non-boutique acoustic amps. A little bit less harsh and...
This was one of the greatest features on this amp, or so we thought while messing around with it and finding his tone. It lets you get as much crunch and punch from the pre as you like without overpowering the sound systems in smaller venues. An invaluable feature, in my opinion.
A buddy in an old band of mine used to play one of these, and it was sweet. He played it through 2 ashdown cabs - 1x15 and a 2x10, so his setup was very similar to what you're looking at. They sounded great; a lot of thump for clubs and whatnot. He did have an ashdown 2x12 combo fail on him one...
Yeah, ditto on the Studio Projects B3. And firewire. You might check out a trusty ol' M-Audio Firewire 410. They run $400 new, but you can probably get away with one on eBay for a little under $200.
As far as mics go, i've also heard good things about the Rode NT1-A. I believe they go for $200...
Different bands do this different ways, but the general consensus (unless you're going for that 'live' sound) is to mike each instrument individually. The recording generally starts with the drums (the other instruments can play along/sing and be piped into the drummers headphones, if you've got...
If you don't need the portability, you could always go with the same 2.0 DualCore processor in an iMac. Last time i checked, the refurbished ones were a little under $900, bringing the total cost for the whole system with ram and a hard drive a little over the $1100 mark. Not bad, not bad at all...
Go with a macbook! I got a dual-processor 2.0 Ghz macbook that I love - I run protools, reason, and live on it with absolute ease.
Macbook 2.0 ghz - $1099
2 GB ram - $160 from newegg.com
250 GB western digital w/enclosure - $100
TOTAL - $1359
For a great price, i have a tremendously fast...
A buddy of mine has one of these, and ditto on the mic...it's a piece of junk. The stand does its job, at least with a sm57, just nothing much heavier. The cable definitely works for live use, but I wouldn't use it for any sort of recording.
Yeah, the TubePRE isn't really gonna give you a high quality, 'crisp' sound. Do you have any kind of a budget for a new preamp? Also, what AT mic are you using? It's likely that a good mic/pre combination will get you what you're looking for, but that may take some research and (if possible) a...
The mbox has built-in mic preamps, so the best thing to do is just tailor it for each instrument/microphone you're plugging into it - in other words, you'll generally want to set the gain as high as you can without clipping. Use the input device for a few seconds and set the gain before you...
As far as what kind of program you want to use, you have a slew of options. I primarily use ProTools, and I have friends who use Logic, Live, Reason, Cubase, Digital Performer, and various other Cakewalk and Acid type programs. Bottomline - you have TONS of options, all with different pros and...
I'm assuming you run pro tools m-powered per your firewire 410...If that's the case, and you just want a mixer for use with pro tools while also running your computer, you should check out the m-audio ProjectMix IO. It goes for $1000 new on eBay, and it would give you automated faders, transport...
