Ditto on the coil tap! And yes sir you are correct....... singles have a lot more room for emotion and dynamics than a bucker. While a humbucker works perfect for alot of things, the older I get, the more I gravitate to singles.

So many options.... but my main recomendation would be to make sure you get an axe that will inspire you to keep with it. Dont settle on something thats "just OK" to save $100. So get out to the shops and find some wood that gives ya a big woodie!!!!!! Goold Luck

If ya want a well built import shredder..... chk out the Ibanez S series. Super comfortable and platable, but the necks tooo skinny mini for me!

Most entry level guitars will be pretty compairable to one another...... the setup and quality control will not. Sadly(but true) the most important thing to keep a beginner hooked, will be how the guitar looks... my recomendation, take him to Sam Ash or GC and start with the ones he thinks...

I love those amps..... super versatile. If you have a nice effects rig, you can run pretty much any signal into it and it comes out sweet and loud. My favorite amp to run my Fender Rhodes through as well.

There are 2 ways/ places to do it. One is dead center of the heel of the guitar, the other would be 45 degrees toward the ground on the heel of the neck. I personally am into symetry, so I always drill them in the center. WARNING!!! Always drill a small pilot hole before you sink the screw...

Throw the presets out! Most of the ME patches are WAY TOOOOOO over the top for my taste. You can run it through either channel. My advice would be to create simple patches..... if ya like the OD from your amp but need delay.... set up one patch just for distorted delay. etc. etc. Bottom line...

I got one of these reissues right when the came out 8? years ago. As for recording, it was a nice jangly alternative to my LPs and Teles, but it never worked well for lead or solo stuff. Alas, it has been relegated to its hanger for highly infrequent playing over the last few years...
