This is me selling stuff because this current account (Yareek) is screwed up and won't let me start threads, FYI.

    Help me appreciate acoutsic guitars

My "expensive" acoustic guitar is a Tacoma DR-20E. It went for about $1500 or so when it was new, I bought it on eBay for $350. It had no flaws, it was just an unknown brand compared to Martin, Gibson, etc. The important things in an acoustic are solid wood and quality workmanship. Bracing...

Specific tips on buying a new drumset.

I would go maple, thinner shells, more rounded bearing edges. For a 4-piece for pop/jazz, you would probably want smaller diameter shells. Flanged hoops will offer more sustain and more overtones (that can be dampened if need be). DW would be a fantastic choice, Maplex I think has some good...

    Help with my Mic dilema.

Get an SM7! If you've got $300 to spend on a mic, and you have problems with background noise, this mic is perfect.

    My Dream Mic Signal Chain.

    Soundelux u99 -> Great River -> 1176 I'd settle for a u67 though ;)

    Least expensive must-have mic

I'd be happy with this setup: Pair of Studio Project B1's ($125 each) - drum overheads, room mics, distant mics Shure SM57 ($90) - snare, guitar Joe Meek JM27 ($50) - snare, acoustic Shure Beta 52 or AKG D112 ($125 used) - kick, bass, guitar, screaming vocals (you'd be surprised) But I'd...

    e609, e906, m201? Snare, Guitar?

Oh yeah, guitar amp mics. I have to agree with e609 with a ribbon. The e609 on its own is a harsh mic for sure (so much so I sold it). On a clean, dark amp, it can really help cut through a mix if that's what you want. And adding a ribbon and blending after EQ'ing, it really gave a 3D sound...

    e609, e906, m201? Snare, Guitar?

Whoops, should have read the topic a bit more. The m201 is my favorite dynamic snare mic, having used an e609, e604, MD421, and SM57. It has MUCH better off-axis rejection than the SM57, less of a midrange spike, a little more high end. I'm liking a large diaphragm condenser on the side of...

    NEW NAIANT (Mshilarious) MICS!

I was gonna guess LED's in the Orange Crush, but Ge diodes...I was only on the complete opposite end of the forward voltage scale :D MSH-2 looks cool...still waiting for an SM-81 type cardioid so I can sell my C4's and get a pair of B1's...

    Sm57 Poll

It's very solid and durable, sound decent on most everything, sounds phenomenal on most amps and some snare drums. Usually there is a mic for a little more money that can sound better, but its versatility and price seem to make it very popular. This is from a hom-rec'er, so I didn't run it...

Secret of a great snare sound

As a drummer, I've got to agree 110% with Marvkan. In order of importance: 1. Consistent drummer with proper technique 2. Fresh heads tuned appropriately to sound sought 3. Level and consistent bearing edges (sharp or round) and snare bed 4. Material of shell / hoops / etc. For me the drummer...

    Has anybody painted a kit?

What's the current finish on the drums? And what do you mean by "paint"...like a solid color or metallic color or more like a translucent finish?

Which company's drums do you play? VOTE

New kit... Drums are by a custom builder, Raven Custom Drums. The cymbals are by Saluda. And the yellow to red snare was built by me :)

    Any Guitar Center deals?

The 990/991 for $50 deal is over...and I'm pissed because I wanted to pick up a pair of them and dump the 990's

Made in Mexico CUSTOM SHOP FENDER's

Back on topic... I played a MIM Custom Shop Baja Tele and it was HANDS DOWN the best Fender I've ever played. No I haven't played any 50's or 60's stuff, but tons of 70's 80's 90's and new models. The Baja had a REALLY snappy but deep sound...very woody...both acoustic and through the pickups...

    *Wanted* D112 mic clip

How about these? I use them for my C4's because the original shockmounts broke. Seems about the same size as the D112. You can probably find them at your local GC as "Onstage" 20mm clips.

    XY micing? Spaced pair?

Awesome. I go into a Firebox and haven't picked a DAW yet...just switched to Mac. Seriously thinking about going going back to XP with Sonar as nothing really jumps out at me as being great for Mac DAW's yet... Recorderman plus close mics should be great...maybe for the heavier stuff raise...

    looking for a snare mic

C'mon anyone worth his salt has dropped a 57 and broken the $15 grille :D I'm told it changes the sound a bit...it sure LOOKS uglier. The rest of the mic is bulletproof. Oh, you can also try those SM57 knockoffs from eBay...GLS mics. Heard good things. Even more durable is the Sennheiser...

    XY micing? Spaced pair?

Some tips (I assume you have a mixing board of some kind to run all the mics to): Get a pair of isolation headphones! Vic Firth are the ones I use...they don't sound very good but they kill most of the noise so you can hear what's going on a little better. Start with the sound in the...

GREAT way to get fat drums, fast, with 3 mics...

Bump. I didn't really like the concept of the Recorderman method...always liked ORTF because it gives such a great stereo image of the cymbals and you can blend that with close mics to taste. Of course, it captures pretty much cymbals alone with a bit of drums so my OH were always down -6 to...
