struggling with the mixdown feature being truthful....

I mean, I could save my mixes to a .wav file, but what if I want to send a good CD-quality mp3 to a friend over MSN? I could save my mixes to wav's but it isn't too practical, and I don't really like sending over 10 MB for a single 30 second clip. I mean, I know wav's are the best, but I want a...

    What exactly is compression?

Well, I was reading the reverb thread a while ago and someone mentioned that reverb is as abused as compression. While I know what reverb is, I have very little understanding of what compression is and what it does to an audio track. And after that someone said that it is "abused" as well, I...

struggling with the mixdown feature being truthful....

I agree with the first guy. Sometimes the mix, when I mixdown to an mp3 for example, doesn't sound as good qualitywise as what you can hear in the multitrack view. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the quality you are mixing down to. Well, at least that's my problem. I wish there was a good...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Oh, that's awesome! Will the onboard EQ (the one in the mixer) affect the channel if I use the "1 click" trick? (after reading some threads, I get why it's called like that now :P) Does this trick compromise sound quality? I don't know if I would feel comfortable using these jacks for a...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Awesome! Thanks a lot Bulls Hit and Minion! I didn't know there was a Delta 44 and a Delta 1010LT. I didn't notice they were different cards. I'll look into the Delta 44. :) Bulls Hit, by "inserts" do you mean the AUX jacks for each track? What exactly is an "insert"? Again, thanks!

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Oh well, then the Delta is a great option so far. What I was trying to say earlier is that I wouldn't mind using the mixer's 4 outs for the drums to record into Adobe Audition. Then I could go back, listen to the recorded drums, and record the guitar, then the bass, etc... I wouldn't mind...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Alright, I think I'm getting this a bit better. The only thing is that I don't think the mixer's 4 outs are RCA outputs. They're more like the type you'd find in a guitar amp. You would have to use a cable like this (click here) to connect them to the computer. I'm really sorry if I sound a...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Yeah, the problem is I live in Venezuela. And with Hugo Chavez and his anti-US policies...it's not the same as Brazil for example. :/ I know where I can find the Yamaha mixer I showed you, and after reading the manual twice (I'm a slow learner, and as you can see, this is, more than a thread, a...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Thanks a lot Bulls Hit and Minion. Very informative! That link you gave me (Bulls Hit) offers quite a nice deal, and it is exactly what I need. I'll think about purchasing that. (I'm in a kind of tight situation because I live in South America and around here it's hard, borderline impossible to...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Can you give me a link to that "8-channel firewire interface" please? I have another question (btw, thanks a lot for replying in the first place! I'm really thankful for that), If I were to buy the Yamaha mixer I showed you, and if I plugged the mixer's main out to my computer's line-in...would...

Mixers and Recording applications - How to's.

Hi, I roughly understand what a mixer does, and I'm going to buy my first mixer ever. This is the one I'm looking at (click here). My question is: can I somehow plug this mixer to my computer and have my recording application (Adobe Audition 2.0 or 1.5, I have both) "recognize" the different...

    PUNKIN' hard!

Wow I'm really flattered (I don't think anyone has made this kind of response toward my work). Thanks a lot man! I don't think it's all that great, though, haha. But honestly, thanks a lot for your kind words! :)

    New song!

Hey! I thought it was really good. My only critique would be that the snare sounds a little off for some reason. Sounds kind of "tubby" to me. Also the higher notes sound a little off-key, but maybe that's just me. Awesome job though. :)

    PUNKIN' hard!

Hey I tried to improve the sound of the general mix. Tell me if it did actually improve (to me it sounds better). I changed the drum sounds too, and I think now they sound more fitting for the song. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YIZSJXK5 Thanks!!

    PUNKIN' hard!

Hi, I would really, really, REALLY want to hear your input on this song as far as how each instrument sounds, what I can do better, etc. I'm relatively new to the recording business, and found these boards to have a lot of knowledge lurking around, so I might as well benefit from it :D...

Check out my guitar tone! (/bites nails)

Thanks so much, Calwood! Now I guess my problem is to place the guitars where they belong in the EQ-Spectrum. What do you suggest I should do to the guitars for them to sound more "in place"? Again, thank you for your input. : )

Check out my guitar tone! (/bites nails)

I don't really know what that means, punkin. :S Out of tune? :S I tuned the guitar right before recording. But who knows, maybe you're right. What exactly happens when an instrument "clips"? Does that mean that it hits the red bars in the monitors?

Check out my guitar tone! (/bites nails)

Wow, thanks a lot for your replies guys! What do you mean by "more headroom"? Ah, hehe y hablo español. Dice, "esta cancion no tiene nombre guey, pero asi va." :D I really really appreciate your input! :)

Check out my guitar tone! (/bites nails)

Since I recorded this myself and stuff, it's pretty hard for me to judge whether it's a decent or completely yucky guitar tone. :S Please, please critique the tone. I'm just starting in the whole home-recording biz, and could really use your help. Drums were made in Fruity Loops haha. So...
