Do any of you actually record like this (comping performances^100)

He puts this little example we've seen here on a CD...and mimes. Welcome to the pop industry

    record metronome?

I always create my own metronome track to get round this very problem. I take a clip of a high hat and snap it to beat one, copy and paste to beats one two three and four, make the first one a bit louder then copy and paste this section bar after bar...so yeah if anyone knows a better way...

    Rings and Things

I'm gonna say the same as I said on the Jimmy Page Long Slung Guitar thread - yes its unnecessary, yes it is pointless and no it wont improve your playing - but if it makes you look cool people WILL power through and do it...people like me :laughings: I only tend to wear rings for gigs. If I'm...

    Individually sound good..together..not so much

welcome to the fun of mixing  I think EQ will be your best friend here. there are loads of tutorials online about how to use EQ to seperate parts of a mix, but basically, give each instrument its own space and make cuts to the other instruments to they don't interfere with it. I'm...

    Recording Roland V Drums

Hi Krispy, I've come across this before with my TD3. You can't get the sounds out seperately nah, its a pain. What I did was spend ages getting the drum levels right in the sound brain so they wouldn't need much mixing on the PC. You best bet may well be ezDrummer though. It takes a MIDI...

    hard panned guitars

set the levels of the two sides so they're the same volume, the mono balance will be roughly equal, if its atill way out then move the pan positions in a bit instead of going hard L and R

    Individual Drum Tracks

yep I second that, you'll see a huge improvement in sound quality too if you are currently just using your PC sound card to record. I have a delta 1010 which is one of the cheapest 8-channel interfaces, it needs preamps on each channel but if your mixer has insert points you can use the ones on...

    For Monitoring: Speakers or Headphones?

I dont think they will ever make headphones with a similar sound signature as good quality speakers. Monitors all the way.

    Original vs. Cover

I second that, it was aweful, truly aweful. Oh and whoever mentioned Joe Cocker nice one :D he grew up round the corner from me The best covers are ones where the artist takes a song that was well written but (in some people's opinion) sold itself short, and then improves it. You mentioned...

Looking for tips to record a live band demo

its going to be difficult to get a good result with only 2 inputs, but you cuold try what the chicken master says, or try two mics at either side of the room to get some stereo seperation - you'll lose the kick though. You best bet might be to buy a cheap microphone mixer and mix the four mics...

Avoiding frequency overlap = perfect mix?

you have to be careful with all this "frequency range of an instrument thing" because its not as simple as it seems...A guitar goes from 82Hz to 1KHz or something...these are the fundamentals of the notes not the only range the guitar will ring out frequencies at. If you think about the physics...

    Unprocessed Vocal Tracks

Um...yes? if you get a pleasant surprise out of something then how is it not worthwhile? I don't particularly wanna see Tommy Lee's cock, but if I did, and it was smaller than mine, then I'd be pleasantly surprised and be glad I saw it :p Anyway thats a pointless argument, and the whole notion...

    Unprocessed Vocal Tracks

You've completely contradicted yourself there. I think you're being a bit cynical, it may not help you but it could help him, plus bozmillar's gone out of his way to post these - I've had a listen just out of curiosity

    Jimmy Page's low-slung guitar position.

completely agree with you. It really winds me up when guitarists argue that so and so is a crap player because they can't do blistering runs with pinpoint precision and there's a youtube video somewhere of them dropping their pick. These people tend to be the ones that re-wind guitar solos and...

    Budget Upgrade Advice

you wanna be careful doing this though...a lot of new motherboards dont have an AGP graphics card slot, its all PCIe so he'd need to buy a graphics card...a quad core processor with all that RAM and two soundcards will need 500+watts power supply, more expense...then theres fans, you'll need...

    Budget Upgrade Advice

for better performance you need to look at multi-core processors. Intel Core2 Quad is the best about in my opinion, you can also add another 1010 to get more inputs if you need 16. The delta series are fine for this you dont even need to install any more drivers (I think)

I currently record 16 channels into Logic with a Mackie Onyx Board....

do you mind me asking why you need 20 channels?

    Noise Gate Vs. Tom Tom's

I often use gated reverb on toms, it gives them a bit more "ring" in the mix and you can get a much better control over how quickly they fade away using the release on the post-reverb noise gate.

Home studio - interface options - help required!

It will probably have 1/4" jacks yeah but any kind of adapter - its made by M-audio so it bloody better connect easily! Don't go with that preamp just cos I said so tho, its just an example :)
