I agree with the 421, (if you got one or can get one). I always liked it better on bass cab than the D112. Just try different mic positions with the D112 first.

I bought a Baby Bottle on reputation and loved it. As one of their less expensive mics, it really is a great buy. It worked on my friend's vocals on his project I did a few years ago. Funny that I was auditioning a U195 at the same time amd we were comparing them for his vocals/acoustic...

I had the same problem recording a Les Paul into a Moogie Mark IIC+, a lil distortion occasionally on the clean channel (when I played heavier) and I realized that my pickups were too close...
I think I might go ahead and get the Roland expansion card so I can get the 1176 and L2A2 plug-ins AND have money to buy a Distressor. I have always kinda wanted that one from what I've read. I think I can get one for around $1000. I will also keep an eye out for a DBX. Any last thoughts...
The only way I can use plug-ins is if I buy a $300 card for my VS1880 and then pay more for the limited amount of plug-ins that are available.
After more thought, I want a colored compressor, and I do think I will use it mainly for vocals.
