    skimping on preamps

So is there going to be a noticable difference is quality if I use the midiman AudioBuddy Preamp, the Presonus Blue Tube Preamp, or some mixer around the Behringer MX602A level of quality?

    skimping on preamps

and Seanmorse79, thanks for the caution. I haven't done any recording in about 7 years, so I definately don't mind having the obvious pointed out to me.

    skimping on preamps

does anybody have an opinion as to whether the Presonus Blue Tube Preamp is worth the extra money over the AudioBuddy. Or would you guys recommend going with the AudioBuddy until I can save up for a more mature preamp? thanks, -Drew

Newbie's question, don't laugh at me!!!

You probably all ready thought of this, but: If your cd player has two outputs (ie headphones and line out) you may want to make sure you are recording from the line out. If you record from the headphone output many cd players add base to 'improve' the sound. -Drew

    skimping on preamps

I'm saving up for a decent preamp, but in the meantime I need something to get me by. Can I use either (insert shutter here) my peavey guitar amp or my home stereo receiver as a make-shift preamp. I need the preamp to bring mic levels to line levels for vocals. System is Shure sm58 mic...

    new laptop soundcard

Echo audio now has a PCMCIA adapter for their layla and mona systems. That will cost though: ~1k for full system or $200 extra for just the adapter.

    card supported by w2k?

I appreciate the feedback re w2k and the dual procs. The problem is my machine is running great currently with w2k and the dual processors. So I would prefer not to go back to NT 4.0 and the other win systems (98, 95) won't support the dual processors (which I do use for other apps). But...

    card supported by w2k?

I checked the carddeluxe website and they do not have a specific w2k driver. Although they comment some users have had success using the NT driver in w2k. Sounds risky for my dual processor machine. The Aardvark website doesn't sound to encouraging for w2k either. The lynxone site does say...

Anyone using a Delta 1010 on Windows 2000?

The m-audio website in the faq says their delta cards (except audiophile) will function with their beta driver in windows 2000. But they won't work on a dual processor machine. -drew

    card supported by w2k?

one more card: the aardvark direct pro 24/96 looks kicking, but I've heard there aren't any w2k drivers. Does anyone use it successfully with w2k? thanks, -drew

echo recording systems vs. bare card?

Could someone familiar with the echo line please help me? With the echo line (e.g. layla, gina) it seems you can either buy the card with the breakout box OR you can spring for the recording system in which you get the card and a nifty-looking rack-mountable piece of hardware. My question is...

    card supported by w2k?

that's great to know the delta cards will work. I had stop looking at those becaus I read a couple of unfavorable posts (re w2k). The echo website has beta drivers for w2k. Does any one use their cards with success on w2k? I am also looking at the lynxone, but its hard to find deals on it...

    card supported by w2k?

I'll be running in a couple line levels (guitar, keyboard) and a couple mic levels (dynamic). But this will not necessarily be at once. I don't think I'll need more than 2 inputs at a time. I'll probably run n-track or cool edit on the software side. I like the looks of the echo cards if...
