tascam 688 - disassembly and (hopefully) repair)

How loud Hermann? Like a horrible mechanical "I'm about to fail" grinding noise or an annoying buzzing hum? One of my mixers developed a buzzing hum after a few years when it warmed up that I traced down to the transformer buzzing and rattling the metalwork that surrounded it. Pressing down on...

    Okay, so..

Monitor One MKII's or M1Active MKII's? Monitor One MkII's are passive. You'll need an amplifier between the speakers and the computer (with the speakers connected to the amp and the amp connected to the computer as Gecko says) if you've got those. If they are M1Active MKII's then they are...

    Monophonic Phore Track Phun

Hurrah Ray. I like working with these severly limited analog forms. Sometimes it really sound snice. I'm not sure if it's the media or just he fact that it is so limited track wise. It sure does make you think about what instrumentation to use, where to use them and the actual performance itself...

    synching 688's

I'd have to agree with Hermann here. My attempts to syncronise my 424 MKIII with my digital BR1600 also failed. Not because it wouldn't sync but because the cassette tape wow'd and fluttered when the sync track was striped and played back enough to cause speed variations that were very noticible...

Street Racer Parts I & II Well I told you I'd stick it up once some packaging was done... Recorded my favorite way - three piece band live to 1/4" two track. What you get on the take is what you get. It's in two parts with a little gap in the middle. Leave it running for part II if you get...

Yep, striped tape JP. There's 4 seconds at the start, 4 seconds between the two tunes and 3 seconds run out. :)

Today's show is brought to you by the letter "M" for ....Mono...>

Sort of Hermann, it depends on what you mean by noisy. It's not as clean as the digital one I've got but it's not that noisy to me? I only use input and output A, run the volume and reverb level close to maximum, have the switch to -20db and only send enough to it so that the peak light just...

    tascam 424 (original) help

No one's helping you out here so I'll try. I've got a 424 MKIII and it works just fine. First up, make sure you're using Type II chrome cassettes, preferably C60. Type I is no good for these machines. Use the high speed setting for recording. Put the DBX noise reduction on. Then before you try...

Last night we did another live to 1/4" inch two track, two tune recording at Goose for our next Lonely Few cassingle. Today it was time to ah, well, erm, "master" probably isn't quite the right word for it... The Revox is playback, the desk is merging to mono, the Otari is 15ips tape delay, and...

    Sync'd Boss BR1600's

Morning trendsetters.. Heat, thanks for that. The guitar effect was one of the bass presets inside the BR1600. Same as you'd find on one of their multi effects GT boxes I think. Can't remember exactly what it was called. I guess the girly BV sound is just my feminine side :o KC, ta for the...
