Been working hard but would like opinions

Is it the (I guess you can call it) B part? Was it choppy? After I replied asking where you were talking about I did a little detective work. I wasn't aware that Reaper adds a small fade in the start and end of clips. I spent about 50 hours last night removing the fades in all 3 songs. I...

Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind words and suggestions. I really appreciate it!! robgreen - thank you! I was unfamiliar with it, but yeah I definitely hear it. Definitely similar concepts involved. guitar zero - you've been great so far man. I agree with you about doing better on...

Hmm, really? The reason why I decided to do that was because I thought having the driest signal in would be best. You very well may be right though. I'll tell ya what, I recorded vocals last night on a SM57 - man a world a difference. I think the beta 58 was what was holding things up a bit...

Been working hard but would like opinions

Hmm good call, I'll give that a try. I've always been a live guy and therefore would generally eat the mic. However I had assumed in the studio setting that I'd want to take a step back to AVOID proximity (once again b.c of boominees). Is the name of the game, though, to actually get...

Been working hard but would like opinions

Right right, I get what you're saying. I stand about a foot away. If I stand any closer than that I end up having to take a good bit off of the vocal take. I used a Beta 58a to record these vocals in about a 5'x2' closet lined with blankets.

Been working hard but would like opinions

The original mixes were bland - Drums up the middle, not dynamic, muddy, etc What I'm gonna do is type both the processing on the vocals and my reasoning for why, and maybe someone can see what I'm doing wrong. Here we go. Step 1 - Before I record vocals, I mix my tracks for tone, space, and...

Been working hard but would like opinions

Hey guys, I've been working on the songs I posted here a couple weeks ago. I've taken the advice given to me, and its helped a lot. I think they've come a long way, but to me I feel like there's still something missing. I'm not really sure though. I feel like the way the vocals sit in the...

    Focusing on harmonic overtones

Great stuff man, thanks! I'm gonna give that a try.

    Focusing on harmonic overtones

Hey guys...in a nut shell I have a guitar track that's rich in harmonic overtones that I'd really like to bring out in the mix. What are some ways to accomplish this? I originally assumed that I'd be able to eq them up, but I'm having a hell of a time isolating just what I want (I also have a...

    Simple tube question

Well some tubes run hotter than others - every tube is rated for a different dissipation . If your power tubes are bias'd incorrectly you run into problems anywhere from sounding like garbage to frying your tubes in a very short amount of time.

No man, all these reviews are totally write on. Thanks. Regarding the vocals, I'm recording in my apartment. To some degree, I hold back instead of letting the vocals open up. I guess I kinda feel naked singing in my thin-walled apartment. Haha. I think studio time would solve that...

I have an HD-28v. I guess its from the early 2000's. I love her and wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. Some of the best sounds I've ever heard have come out of that guitar. Only problem I've experienced is a rattling tuning gear (Actually to be more specific I think its the washer...

My Strat Highway 1 mod I'd like to share (Pic HEAVY)

Yes they do. And it was easy, however in hindsight I would do it differently this time. I've seen online somewhere (and you can just do this yourself) - a metal bracket that holds the switches, and instead of drilling a hole for the entire switch assembly to fit through, you just route a small...

My Strat Highway 1 mod I'd like to share (Pic HEAVY)

Hey thanks again guys! There's been a lot of time, effort, and love dumped into her. Regarding my choice in pickups...I definitely knew the tone I wanted to get out of them, so it made the choice borderline a no-brainer. Plus I get the versatility of going single coil or humbucking with any...

Awesome man, thanks. Its seems the general feeling is that I need to open 'er up a little bit more. That's definitely the vibe I got. I felt it could benefit from a little extra depth, but couldn't quite put my finger on where it was coming up short.

Hey thanks I appreciate that. I think I misspoke and chose the wrong word by saying thick. What I was trying to convey was that the extra added rhythm guitar track made it feel...cluttered? Like there was just too much happening at once? However I'm sure what you said would still apply to...

Do you know the note names on the fretboard?

Its completely possible to not know it and wing it...and if you're a lucky person it might work out for you. However, at least personally, doing what I do would be impossible (well..just a lot harder). I have to be able to know that the note I'm resolving to IS the note that I'm hitting...

My Strat Highway 1 mod I'd like to share (Pic HEAVY)

It was a total pain in the ass. It was like 4 in the morning with a blizzard going on outside. My last dremel bit goes on me, but because of the blizzard ain't nothing I could do. So I had to use the core of the bit to basically grind it out...not fun. And I could have but, I had a specific...

Are these vocals what they should be? Not necessarily a question of how talented or untalented they are (though feel free to answer that as well) but more about how they're mixed. That's, in my mind, one of my biggest shortcomings. Are they compressed too much, too little, do they sit right in...
