Active or Passive DI for Reamping?

ok but when reamping into your computer, dont you need to increase the level signal for the computer? I recall recording guitar into a computer through a passive DI and the signal was very weak... dont you need to increase the signal strenght from line to mic level for the computer?

    Clarification of Panning Please!

ok, so basically youre telling me to forget about the whole 2 spearker/volume thing and telling me that I should just look at it as in, "if it sounds like that sound moved 4 inches to the right, it did". so if I have what appears to be two sounds overlapping, i pan them till they sound like...

    Clarification of Panning Please!

ok ok... for some reason this is a concept my mind doesnt want to grasp.. but for the time being I think i have it figured out... so what is this business of panning things out of the way of each other? is it just somehow seperating the frequecies so that the mind can hear it better? im not...

    Good DI/Splitter/Reamp box

so reamping is usually a two-step process.. first you record the dry signal via the DI box, and then you use a reamping box to take the signal from the computer or whatever and send it back into an amplifier.. the red eye has a build in splitter function so what WHILE recording the dry signal...

    Clarification of Panning Please!

ok, so i know that when using a pan pot, or software, say you have a track of guitar, and a track of vocals if you pan the guitar 100% left, and the vocals 100% right, the guitar will be the only things coming out of the left speaker and the vocals will be hte only thing coming out of the right...

Active or Passive DI for Reamping?

Does it matter which one you use? I have read a bunch of old threads but just got more confused. A.) What exactly does the DI do in the reamping process, why is it necessary? (or is it even necessary?) B.) what does the Reamp box do in the reampin process? i am going to make a really basic...

    Good DI/Splitter/Reamp box

so with this unit, you plug your guitar in the front instrument in, run a cable from the rear instrument in/thru to your amplifier of choice (so that you can listen to yourself track while recording, and then out of the rear you run a cable from the mic-out to your computer/recording device...

Why not place your speakers like this...

I can understand using monitors for EQing and such because they give unbiased frequencies to your ears, but as far as panning around, wouldnt headphones be best? A. because a majority of listeners will be listening on headphones, and B. because headphones are predictable and controlled. I also...

Why not place your speakers like this...

sooooo basically the reason not to do what i have described above is because for whatever reason, using the equilateral triangle has been what has provided audio engineers with the most equally translatable product for all mediums... and unless i am happy with the mix resulting from this...

Why not place your speakers like this...

While moving my junk around, i took a break and my speakers, in relation to me, were at a very wide angle... they are about 30 degrees off axis.. my head is at the obtuse angle of what seems to be about 120 degrees. each speaker aimed at my ears... what i noticed was that i can "see" the stereo...

SPDIF vs. Balanced, Which = Better Quality?

ok i got a digital card.. heres what i conclude for anyone reading this... Digital picks up much less interference noise over analog, balanced or unbalanced... other than that it seems to be pretty much the same sound, maybe the digital sounds a little brighter/clearer but that could be my...
