SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

All pianos have damper noise more or less. In the typical recording of classical piano it's usually in a concert hall or large studio so you can get pretty far from the instrument. Unfortunately in my living room I don't have a lot of room to work with in terms of adressing the mechanical noise...

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

yeah I do, but not as much with the medium diaphram. I've just read some reviews where the mics were defective. I usually don't go by the negative reviews too much if there are just a few but in this case I read more than a few. It won't necessarily stop me. I read about a lot of problrms with...

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

Yes at 3035-- at one point i did. --they are medium diaphram condensers I believe? My piano tech is coming in a few weeks. What can be done with the damper noise that you know of?

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

I thought that might be the case. Makes sense. I know Rode says that the specs are so close on their mics that they don't need to be matched although I did buy a matched pair of NT1A's--maybe it's a gimmick then, or maybe there not so close as they say--who knows. I'm selling them anyway for...

    question for sound engineers

No, has to have cheese the right kind and amount. Yeah in Chicago they probably have signs that say "Authentic I-TALIAN Pizza." After all they did invent that deep dish stuff that tastes like cake with cheese and tomato sauce on top. It's so "madigan!"

    question for sound engineers

Good Pizza in the Midwest? Impossible. I live in an Italian neighborhood with a Pizza shop on every other corner and none of them are good. What has the world come to! So frustrating.

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

can't close mic classical--can't have damper noises etc.----it craps up the effect---also not what people are used to in classical piano recordings. I'm looking for a bigger sound since it is in my living room which is very padded. I think an SDC would be too focused and detailed a sound for...

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

Thanks for the info. I'm micing from a distance of at least 6 feet from the piano in my living roomI'll stick to matched pair probably. Did a recording today with my two pulsars and it was awesome. They were 1 foot aprart and had almost no noise compared to last recording I did where they were...

    recording acoustic grand pianos

As mentioned you'll need to discribe your recording situation in detail. I started getting information from this forum about 2 months ago in my quest to make a great recording of myself playing my acoustic grand in my living room. You'll learn a lot by checking out all my trials and...

    question for sound engineers

Yes Chili I definitely will as soon as I've decided on which mic and postion etc. Also the piano will be voiced tuned and regulated at end of the month. I'd like to post an mp3 and get some feedback. I've been talking about this damn project, asking questions pretty incessantly on this forum for...

    question for sound engineers

Thanks Glen. I'll try using that formula. output spec to gain spec--good to know. I checked with Doug Oade last week and he checked the specs of the ribbons I'm interested and said they'll work fine. The upgraded Tascam has a lot of gain. The NT1A's at fiftten feet from the piano--gain only...

    question for sound engineers

OK thanks Glen and both Toms and, Tom V, we spoke before--nice to know there is someone in the "neighborhood.") My situation is that I'm trying to make a quality recording operating on the research I've done online the past four months, feedback from the forum, AND operating within my...

    question for sound engineers

To what extent can hiss(more like white noise) be filtered out in mastering process? My NT1A's are dead quiet. My Pulsars with 16db noise level give very slight noise compared to the Rodes. I like the sound of both but may have a preference for the Pulsars not sure yet. I'm hesitant to...

question about "noise" issues with new Tascam HD P2 with Oade HD upgrades

Got the answer, thanks. It's specific to the Tascam. The playback speakers are on by default unless the headphones are plugged in. You just need to turn off the volume control for the headphones.

SP c4 omni pair vs. Audio Technica 4022?

Anyone have any experience using Audio Technica 4022's for acoustic piano? I was planning to get a pair of SP c'4s and use with omni capsules but the noise floor is a bit high, 16db , and there are occassionly problems with the c4's and they have to be returned. I know as far as manufacture...
