Hey, Zach. I know you haven't been on this Board for almost a decade, but if you happen by, let us know what you decided.:D

Looking for a 2 channel Preamp

I've recently been intrigued by the Sound Devices Mix Pre. I read a great review a couple of years ago (in Tape Op, I think) and read some good stuff about it over at Gearslutz. Around $600. http://www.sounddevices.com/products/mx2master.htm

Probably this guy playing a 12-string laud. http://www.pbs.org/buenavista/musicians/bios.html Barbarito Torres One of the many unforgettable musical moments on The Buena Vista Social Club album is “Barbarito” Torres’ laúd solo on “El Cuarto de Tula.” The laúd is a 12-string instrument of the...

Is it time to ditch the Mixer for channel strips?

I'd look into the Seventh Circle stuff--especially if you can DIY. Lots of people love them.

best, affordable condenser mic for vocals&acoustic guitar

Wrong!:D First he should buy a really good preamp like a John Hardy, so he can test all of his new mics to see which one is REALLY the best.

    DMP3 vs digi pres

I like the DMP3 for a clean pre, but I'd be surprised if it was much different/better than the Digi pres. I'd either save up for a colored preamp or maybe look into the Tweakhead or Black Lion upgrade. I paired my DMP3 with a Sebatron and have been pretty happy with that combo.

Best deal for a large-diaphragm condenser microphone?

If I remember correctly, many people on this Board who have used the MK-319 have said it has a darker character and is suited to male vocals.

Best deal for a large-diaphragm condenser microphone?

You could look into the various LD caps made for the MK-012 preamp body: MK-101 (149 EUR), 102(179 EUR), 104 (199 EUR). The MK-105 sells for $675 in the USA, so 329 EUR might be a very good deal. Also, here's a 2006 Gearslutz thread with some posts from Mike Joly...

    Great River NV1 or Mini-me? I'm torn!

Honestly, for what you are doing, I think the Meek is fine. I had a VC1q cs and it was only colored when I engaged the compressor. From an old Alan Hyatt post: "...the VC6Q is a chip based design. It uses the SSM2017 mic pre IC Chip. The warmth and color of that mic pre come from the...

    Taylor Swift signature guitar

True! I'm not that familiar with KK's other stuff, but those lyrics and that melody are classic IMO--and with JJ singing, one of the best ever.

I got a TC Helicon vocal effects unit.

I think that is a fine sounding mic. Can it read?

Yup, I saw the same article. It was several years ago in one of the recording mags. The sight of it kinda scared me.

    Recording Acoustic guitar dilemma

Yeah...I got a little confused there. It was your (very) close micing and your mixing technique that caught my ear.
