I've recently been intrigued by the Sound Devices Mix Pre. I read a great review a couple of years ago (in Tape Op, I think) and read some good stuff about it over at Gearslutz. Around $600.

I like the DMP3 for a clean pre, but I'd be surprised if it was much different/better than the Digi pres. I'd either save up for a colored preamp or maybe look into the Tweakhead or Black Lion upgrade. I paired my DMP3 with a Sebatron and have been pretty happy with that combo.
You could look into the various LD caps made for the MK-012 preamp body:
MK-101 (149 EUR), 102(179 EUR), 104 (199 EUR).
The MK-105 sells for $675 in the USA, so 329 EUR might be a very good deal.
