how best to make SACD-quality recordings?

I bought a 16-bit, 44.1kHz multitracker (a Fostex VF-160) a year ago and naturally only after the fact read about higher-quality 24-bit, 96+kHz multitrackers and formats (SACD and DVD-Audio). Is it possible for a home recording enthusiast to burn SACDs? (Probably not due at least to the...

    Roland D-20 issues

I've had a Roland D-20 for the longest time. Two questions: 1. I've read on the net that there's a firmware update available for this machine. Does anybody know anything more about it? 2. My D-20 (and I suspect others as well) has a poor signal-to-noise ratio. Is there any way to improvie...

    v-amp pro or pod xt?

I can't speak to the first issue but, yeah, the behringer has A LOT of noise on a lot of the presets. I've found a couple relatively clean useable presets so far. Daryle

New Song Up - Tell me what you think!

I'd be pretty happy with it too if I were you. I think some of the previous comments might be over-analysing it. This I agree with. It could use some effects -- not just at the start but throughout the whole piece just to fill the stereo spectrum and set it off a bit. The other guitars seem...

    OK, I'll bite...

It's a sampled guitar played on the keyboard. Thanks for the honest critique. There was a flub-up near the end with the sampled acoustic part but I kept it as "improvisation". Maybe I'll retrack it to fix the apparent timing mistakes -- keeping the notes but playing it in time better. I...

Anyone use a Vamp 2 to record?

This may be a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. How do I adjust the noise gate for high gain amp settings?
  13. D

Anyone use a Vamp 2 to record?

No, you're not. It's not only the gain; even with the gain all the way down, so far of the ten or so amp settings I've tried, only fuzzbox and a couple others don't suffer from a radically bad amount of noise. It's brutal! I hope I'm doing something horribly wrong and that this machine is...

VF160 users speak up! Interested in this DAW

Yes, the Fostex has a built in CD-RW drive which allows you to store .WAV files from the 16/24 tracks onto CDR/CDRW which can be loaded onto your computer via the CD drive. You can also take those files back into the Fostex, edited if you like. Hope this helps. Daryle
