Getting rid of specific room resonance

Hi Ethan I've made a couple of your design, a low bass and a mid bass, along with high absorbers across the front third of the room. I'm planning on making a couple more for the control room and the main room (which has 2 pair so far).

Getting rid of specific room resonance

There's a pitch that rings a bit in my new control room (which otherwise is sounding good), a mid bass pitch. How can I make a Helmholz resonator tuned to that pitch to get rid of it? I've got a few bass traps, I'm going to make more, but i don't know if that will solve the problem. Will a...

    wood rack rails?

i'm building racks for some of my gear, and i'm considering just making the rails of wood. I've seen this done before, even on commercial products. Is there a good reason to go with metal rack rails? anyone with nice rack designs out there?

    Street noise thru ventilation

the studio I've been building is coming out great. One thing that's concerning me now is street noise entering thru the ventilation system, which is all networked in the rafters. I think we've done a good job with soundproofing, close all the doors, and street noise pretty much disappears...

    WIRING advice needed

I'm just about ready move my gear in to my new building and wire up the place. Of course, i'm so ADD that I can only think one and a half steps ahead of myself, so i'm just now figuring out how I'm going to do it. I know what I want for i/o boxes in each room, connected to snakes. I'm...

    wood floor spot treatment.

wait a second. So the only reason we see all this nice wood in studio walls is cosmetic? Hard to believe. and the fact is, my room sounded completely different regardless of carpeting. Carpeted concrete, carpeted parquet, a world of difference. Please tell me why.

interesting. I hadn't read that passage before, although I have skimmed that Acoustics 101 document they have there. I get their point. Most of the world is trying to put project studios into existing square or rectangle areas. I've had a busy studio for many years in a rectangle room i took...

Everything I've ever read regarding room design says to avoid parallel surfaces, to splay the walls. I'd actually be surprised if the auralex people suggest square rooms. The idea is to avoid standing waves. These oddly shaped rooms have a really nice diffuse reverberation right now, of...

    portable/removable drum platform

Ok, i don't want my large room to be permanently crippled by a drum platform. Any ideas for making a platform that's removable?

    wood floor spot treatment.

I've almost finished building my new studio, but I had an interesting experience in my old studio space. My first studio was an add-on to my house. I poured a concrete slab for a studio room. With carpeting, the room was very boomy and unpleasant sounding. I put in Parquet floor, and even...

    wood floor spot treatment.

i respectfully have a different opinion. A room with wood floors and walls will sound quite different than a room with concrete floors and walls.

I used homosote wrapped in cloth. I'll put some caulk around the edge before I put the glass in. then more caulk and molding to hold the glass in. Seems like it should work. Oh yeah, I'm going to put a bead of caulk on the actual frame for the glass to sit on. Open to other ideas, tho.

I used joists 16" on center, and put the "U Boats" 24" on center. Seems like it's going to work out well, i've got 3 rooms with independent floors. Can't wait to get going. Oh and we put most of the track lights in yesterday. here's a pic.

Ok, I got a price of $1700 for 8 windows of safety glass, 4 of them 1/4", 4 of them 3/8. One pair is pretty big, like 7 feet long, so I guess I should have expected a something hefty like that. My contractor friend had me ask them to place the large pieces of glass into the frames themselves...

No sand or insulation. I'm actually going to check out a riser for drums, hopefully removable, as this is also the all purpose room.

getting friggin' close. Window glass, doors, some wall to wall carpet, molding, that's just about it. Then the electronics uh oh. I'm sure it's going to take waaaay longer than i imagine. Everything else did.
