Tascam US 122 - Noise problem

Sounds like you're the victim of a nasty ground loop. Try to disconnect your lappie from the mains and see if it helps. If the noise's gone, then that's a ground loop. I've heard that some people solved the problem by opening their laptop and disconnecting the ground pins of the USB socket from...

    Storing wav files on CD's

You can get away storing 1.5 Gig of audio on a single CD-RW using wav specific losless compression such as monkey audio's http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ It is lossless and It can reduce the size of a stereo wav file to a quarter of its original size (wheras winzip would give you only a half). The...

    Windows 2000 vs. XP

Who would have some precise tecnical argument in favor or against XP? things like: -better task scheduling policy under XP? -more audio streams with XP? -better latency with XP? -better swap file management with XP? -more plugins on the exact same project on the exact same hardware just by...

    Heavy Breathing

I think I remember someone mentionning a technique for separating vocals from guitar when recording live solo tracks somewhere on the forum. The trick was to place cardboard horizontally in front of the guitar player, halfway between the guitar and his mouth, and then have a microphone picking...

Silent Speakers, Dummy Loads, Thiele-Small Parameters...

Hi again, I'm sure your all know about reactive loads and silent recording (THD hot plate, Marshall Power Soak, Weber Mass, etc.) I'm sure you've also heard of master Randall Aiken (www.aikenamps.com) and his reactive load design (there are actually two design proposals on his web site...

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

yes that's right, impedance matters as much as level, I could experience this with the big muff, it gets really muddy even at low levels when reamping from the delta's line out, with volume set low. It also changes the treble response of the amp.

Antec Sonata case- anyone tried it yet?

Have you tried large low-speed PAPST fans? they're so silent. and so expensive too.

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

How cool is that, I'm so dumb I never thought of doing it this way! I'm gonna try this week end and keep you informed. Stay tuned. Cool.

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

that's exactly what I was talking about, and that's a little expesove for me at the moment... one day hopefully...

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

Hi again, even at -10dbv it still somehow overloads the stomps and amp. I tried to reamp a take through my big muff through my blues deluxe combo, the fuzz was over-over-distorted (I couldn't get the creamy fuzz tone I have with my guitar on the same setting), and as I lowered the volume...

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

I tried it the direct way, but the signal out of the delta is way too hot compared to what comes out of a guitar, I had to lower the volume from the delta mixer, which gave me a lame signal to noise ratio. A transformer will reduce the voltage but give more current, at the risk of damaging the...

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

I found those audio technica CP8201 XLR-1/4" transformers, with an input impedance of 250 ohms and an output imepdance of 50,000 ohms. They're meant to be used with capacitor mics, but do you think this can do the trick converting line out to guitar like? or will I have to by an expensive...

    Low-Z to High-Z impedance conversion,reamping

Hi, I'd like to re-amp dry guitar tracks through an amp, and I need to raise the impedance of my sound card's output to a guitar-like impedance (8-10k Ohms). My sound card is an Omnistudio, and I can't figure out the output impedance of the line outs. Do any of you have an idea about how to...

    Footswitch for Controlling Computer

There's the ATI Remote Wonder, a really neat remote control. You can get it to work with any application by using the Girder soft, which will simulate keyboard actions whenever you press a button on the remote. The remote works with RF, so the signal passes through walls, up to 7 meters...

HELP!! CPU slow down (Cubase SX user)

Have you checked whether the battery on your mobo was OK? if it's flat, your bios settings won't be kept, equivalent to resetting the bios each time you turn your puter down. a bios flash can be cool too.

how to record and mix 16 tracks? which audio interface?

Thanks tmix! I think he's going to deal mainly with audio, and maybe shift to midi later, as he's new to computer based audio. I didn't know about the chipset issues with the MoTU products. SOS revewed the MoTU offer in october's issue, I'll check. I didn't see anything in the RME line that...

how to record and mix 16 tracks? which audio interface?

Hi folks, I need the help of the experts, and a rather quick answer ( If it's possible) A friend of mine who's been recording analog for years wants to set up a DAW, because his tape machine went down this week end. He's got a few projects running out of date, and he needs to be up and running...
