Sound treatment and mic placement.
First of all, I'd like to say, and I quote,
Did I say headphones? I distinctly remember saying headphones...
Anyway, so I got the dimensions of the room! I am going to place the Bx5a stereo monitors 5 feet away from my head at ear level. My ear level is...
bomb diggit-y. That's what I'm talking about. Right now, my vocal booth is just awesome. I keep my clothes in another room. I attached a pic. There's Auralex on the wall behind the Nady, but I will have to pull it out and use it to treat my new control room when I move. Where I'm going the...
Much better. Thank you!
How does this look?
Thanks for the input! That makes perfect sense. I really want to get the best sound possible out of my recordings. And being not-so-much the acoustics genius, I read about these things all the time, but when it comes to realtime application...
oops, sorry, I posted hella quick and then edited my idiocy afterward. :) True, but Aurlex that thick would cost a ton, and you probably wouldn't want to sleep on it or take it camping. We all already have blankets and pillows. Sleeping bags, if you already have them, can be quite cost...
Small spaces are best. Like a walk-in dampened with sleeping bags and heavy pillows. Couch cushions. And thick blankets. Aurlex looks cool, if you want to pay for some pretty cool-looking foam. But it doesn't work half as well as a pile of sleeping bags and pillows. If you want something...
The Layout, revised
Okay, better plan. The Digital Audio Workstation and all the computer components will be situated in the Living Room somewhat as depicted in this new diagram here...
No one else is going to record here officially. This is my home setup. I figure the walk-in closet...
Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.
From the look of the layout, and just based on size, I would think that the garage section would be the main recording area and the office space in the back would be for post production. But there are a lot of factors to consider, obviously...
I'm moving in to a new apartment in March, 2007, and I'm not sure how to arrange the place to accommodate recording most efficiently. It's smaller than where I am now but in a better community. Basically, recording is my priority and everything else is sort of secondary, although I want to...
Only the audio interface got crisped.
So... update. I've been saving and building since then, when I turned my Edirol unit into burnt toast. Now I got all new equipment. New computer, new card, new mixer, dual mons, stereo nearfields, etc. Plugged in the Focusrite. It works BEAUTIFULLY...
I'm recording in stereo and hard panning left and right on different channels, but I'm not hearing it in stereo until I mix everything down. It's totally frustrating me. Up till now I've been working around it just trying to imagine what it sounds like in stereo and then mixing it down to hear...
Well said, aspirin. I bought one. I like it for what it is, but M-Audio needs to work out the bugs. Microtrack's way better than a portable tape and cost hundreds less than a Marantz.
Despite the bad rap and the other thread here about how ESI's design got ripped off by a Chinese pirate company, it's a nice design.

Yo.
Okay... the differences between the PS04 and the M-Audio are like the differences between high-end and low-end digial recording.
The PS04 comes with a few special effects and a metronome and you can record multiple tracks. So it would probably make a good practice playback machine for...
The M-Audio comes with a 64 meg compact flash card. It's the same kind of card you might use for a digital camera (no, not SD memory, compact flash). Those portable, digital multi-track recorders from Boss and Tascam, etc., use the same. If you use micro-drives they're compatible too. It...
M-Audio Microtrack. They're awesome. With compact flash it's fast and easy. But the bugs right now aren't just a few minor flaws. There are big gaping problem holes in the firmware, like, I can't record in mono. Only stereo. Which isn't really a super-duper-drag; but if I want to run...
A list of reasons to get a manufactured computer:
1.) Powerbook
2.) Notebook
3.) Laptop
I will stand and applaud anyone who has built a custom one of these.
Well, there's something definitely wrong with it. I can't get hear any audio from my DA2496, either through the headphones or the speakers when I try to input through the breakout box. I dropped in the ASIO settings from the control panel. The settings always worked for me in the past with...
