    Dither Question?

DJL, I have an HD24 with a Mackie SR24. I'm just curious- why do you use a finalizer? Since the Mackie is analog, it's already left the digital domain once it passes out of the Mackie, right? Does the finalizer make the mix "sound better." thanks, titan peace

    What do YOU leave flat...

And how do you "use a High Pass?" Are you computer based? Also, here's the deal. I don't have (never have had) a friggin clue how to "add a few Hz here, take a few Hz away there." In other words, I don't know how to "read" my channel eq section. All I know is, ya got yer highs- ya got yer mids-...

    What do YOU leave flat...

What instruments (vocals?) do you tend to record flat? And how many of these same ones would you leave alone (basically) on the final mix? I know that mics, boards, and other gear play a role in this whole deal- but lets just assume we are talking about basically "average to good" gear. titan...

    question about stacking vocals

Listen to some early BEATLES. Double tracked lead vocals out the wah-zoo. Even though it's not tight in spots, it's just HUGE. Also, check out some CROSBY, STILLS & NASH. Probalbly 6 tracks of backing vocals EACH. I like to double all my background vocals. I used to do the lead too. Now I...

best (dynamic) recording mic under 125$

I recently recorded my acoustic guitar with a 57, instead of the AT4033. (i haven't done any serious recording in years- so I'm feeling my way around again) I'm blown away with how good the 57 sounds. Of course, the pre-amp and clean signal path helps, but still I'm very pleased. I'm going to...

    Effects using channel faders...

I'm really showing my ignorance here, but I can't remember how to bring my effects in through the channel faders. Now, I'm using the effects return knobs. Do I come from the output of the effect to the channel input? If I want stereo, do I use 2 channels? As for bussing, do I need to asign...

The manual says Locate point 21 and 22 are the points to use. How the hell do you set them? Lost in Kentucky... titan, Peace

Your favorite/least favorite on-line gear supplier?

I must say, if I were in a location with a REAL pro audio store, I would try my best to have a "relationship" with a local shop. But alas, I'm in what John Lennon would have called NOWHERE MAN CITY. But hey, I'm learning some valuable stuff in this very thread. titan, PEACE

Your favorite/least favorite on-line gear supplier?

No Jeff, I'm not familiar with those units. It's a nice feature of the ADAT's- to log time used, but it caught MF red-handed! Of course, the small nick right on top of the ADAT, and the fact that it wasn't wrapped in the customary plastic, was the only thing that alerted me. Had I not been...

Your favorite/least favorite on-line gear supplier?

Jeff, I don't know if you have seen some of my old posts, but I got an ADAT from MF. It was USED! In fact, I was able to check via the internal counter and it had clocked 18 hours of use. Musicians Friend is no friend of mine. Titan, PEACE

    Lexicon's - Hum city?

Unbelievable - check it out The following is a quote from someone in Tech support from Lexicon: That hum you are hearing is the power supply. It is normal for that units power supply to hum like that--there is nothing wrong with the unit. It is the nature of that power supply. Regards Jim...

    What dealer do you recommend?

"I usually take it for granted that the sales guy is full of shit and do my own research. Then I just buy from whoever is cheapest and has a good return policy." I hear you Tex! "You'll find a lengthy thread about this very issue, which I started about two weeks ago. Good luck. J." Jeff...

    What dealer do you recommend?

Who is your top choice, when buying new gear? In my mind, the most important factors are: 1) SERVICE 2) PRICE 3) KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF (somebody's gotta be) 4) CANDY. titan, PEACE
