SM57 impedance cable mod, 48v OK?

What I saw in the overlay is that the very top end drops at around 16k or so but it's already past the advertised high freq. range of the mic. To me there is no audible difference between the two (except for the gain drop) and the graphs kind of point to that. Having said that, I'm 57 years old...

SM57 impedance cable mod, 48v OK?

I was curious enough to do a simple test. I placed an SM58 5" in front of one of my monitors and recorded some pink noise. I then connected in the impedance mod and recorded the same pink noise without changing anything else. Took both files into Rx. The recording with the mod was 15db lower. I...

Does it matter when replacing foam?

I got myself a replacement foam screen for ShopVac vacuum for around $5. It's that same coarse type foam I've seen in a lot of mics (rather than the tighter celled external wind screen foam) Shop-Vac Micro Foam Sleeve (9052500) - Wet / Dry Vacuum Accessories - Ace Hardware

Restoring old headphones DIY and CHEAP

Hello good peoples, I thought I'd share this: I had several pair of FOSTEX T20 headphones that I used for monitoring during tracking. With age the ear cups got really nasty with cracking and flaking. I looked into replacement cups. $19 each (not a pair) Too much! I found some after market ones...

DP-24... it has to be said

I should also add, and I think this is very important, that when ever I put a fresh card in the 24 I do a FULL format (using the DP24 utility). I used to have trouble with a Marantz digital recorder and formatting inside the machine solved it.

DP-24... it has to be said

I've done 8 tracks at once in 24 bit depth with no problems. I was using 44.1k sample rate though. I tracked a band all day long and no problems. Kingston micro SD chip with the SD adapter, class 10. Also straight mic to track...no other on board processing such as compression. Playback checked...

Is there any way to name the tracks/

I love the ACME Turd Polish icon. I use that one a lot!

Modding an Kustom KGA16R guitar amp

I thought I'd share this because these things are a dime a dozen and IMO a lot of bang for the buck. I've had mine for over 12 years and although I have other, bigger tube amps this is the one I grab to bring to an open mic or impromptu jam at a cookout. It's small and light and (for me)...

    Line 6 Spider IV 150?

I got a spider III 75 for $25. The input jack was broken and I had it fixed in 15 min. The biggest problem I have with these amps are the controls. I spend more time fiddling with the settings than I do playing. Then when you get a sound you like you had better save it (yet more button pushing)...

Mixing distorted guitar - question about echo/slapback/reverb specifically

This is probably unconventional but I like to run my guitar clean into the reverb. I even do this on my rig. I DI the signal on my pedal board before any of the effects and dirt pedals etc, except the wah pedal. Run that through a Lexicon MX200, a clean amp and separate speakers. To my ears it...

Song done completely on DP24 (I Love To Love You)

Nice work, on all levels. Really shows what the unit is capable of in the right hands.

Need suggestions for *cheap* percussion for acoustic song

I've been wanting to try this: Make a "stomper" framing an old license plate and wire a bass pickup underneath it. Of coarse you'd have to amplify it though.

How to get that 'radio' voice?

I'm only half joking here, but the old radio guys I knew got their "voice" from years of experience and generous use of bourbon and unfiltered cigarettes.

    Strings

I've used Ernie Ball regular slinky for over 20 years. Why? Simply because they're so easy to spot on the shelf ; )

I would like to live record my student during her recording session

whatever you use to record the audio, set the sample rate to 48k (as opposed to 44,100) since this is the sample rate that video uses.

    Audio Sweetening?

I work in video and do "sweetening" all the time. Everyone works differently of course but here is my workflow. You have an "approved" rough cut of the piece. That means creative decisions, editorial etc have been made. What stays, what gets cut. So now you finesse everything for the final...

Tascam DP24 and Mixing and Mastering software

I'm sure a lot of people use the 24 as a full stand alone porta-studio. But for me, because I take evrything into a DAW, my "dream machine" would be a smaller unit with just the transport functions and more of the production cost applied to the preamps and build quality of the faders and...

Tascam DP24 and Mixing and Mastering software

That is the only way I do it. I use the 24 for tracking only, then move everything into a DAW. I use REAPER because it is cheap and very good. When I'm done tracking I just clean up the folder (I think it's called delete unused media) and then copy the files out of the SD card. One tip...If you...

Alignment of files - TASCAM DP 24/32

Not if you record a track later in the song. Like a lead solo or something where you record from a marker point later in the time line. What I do is bounce the that track to another so that when I export to DAW the bounced track is the same length as the others. I also use the "clean-up"...
