    Tascam dp-02

If you are using a Shure SM7b with the DP-02, they will suck. No two ways about it. Not enough input "oomph" for that mic. Otherwise, almost every other mic out there should be alright, depending on what exactly you are recording. Give it a shot and make your own decision if you think it...

    Tascam dp-02

Chances are that I said that the mic pres on the DP-02 are weak, and they are, but still workable. I was trying to use a Shure SM7b in front of it and it was a no go. Keep in mind that most things will buckle under the gain requirements of an SM7b. However, a 57/58 or most dynamic mics should...

    Selling my Tascam 388

Unfortunately, there is nothing else like the 388, in open reel format anyway. You could possibly pick up either a Tascam 34B, 22-4, or a 3340 and a small mixer. I'm not sure what other 4 trackers there are from Tascam, Fostex, Ampex, etc. What part of the SE US are you in?? Make sure you...

    Tascam 388 Help

Hey PsychFuzz, I was actually going to mention that! LOL I had it all typed up the other day, and then figured "nah, I'm sure he's tried that" and just canceled the response. Glad you got that to work! The 388 is an awesome machine and like no other!

    FYI, Splicit has splicing blocks

Oh wow, they have the aluminum blocks in now! Sweet! I've got the older wooden blocks, but haven't had any problems out of them, both the 1/4" and 1/2" sizes. I've bought a handful of things from Splicit and would definitely recommend them.

    New 388s!

I think most of us knew it was a farce, even though there was an ounce of hope. One can always hope something like that actually happens...

    Frustrating aspects of analog recording.

Wrapped up in 2" tape??? That would be an expensive sweater!! :P

    New 388s!

So even if it were true, would it have LEDs ala TSR8/M25xx style, or have the original VU meters?? I'll stick with the 388 I have.

How to open my Tascam 38

I forgot what size Allen screw they are, but they are definitely metric, I remember that much. Maybe a 3mm??

How to open my Tascam 38

YouTube - ‪tascam 38 8 track reel to reel belt change‬‏ He sounds like he has a mouth full of chew, but he goes fast, but covers everything. The pitch controller is what will get most everyone, but he mentions the collar and set screw. Let us know if you have any questions/problems!

How to open my Tascam 38

There is actually a great video on Youtube on how to disassemble the 38 and change the belt. There might be a link here in this forum somewhere taking you to it. Try searching "belt change Tascam 38" or something close to that on Youtube to see what you get. I'll dig as well and see what I...

    Tacam us-122 usb cable

If I'm correct, you can just pick up a USB 2.0 cable from your local electronics store. It's probably got the "mini-USB" end on it which plugs into the 122. Seemed to be on just about everything for the past few years as all of the really new stuff has a "micro USB" connector.

    The New Gear

Very nice! I've got a used DA88, but it's in poor shape and I think I'm going to get rid of it. I bought it for cheap last year and it ate the first tape I put into it, so I know it needs a service/alignment. I think it has 400+ hours on the drum too. Never got to see what it was about...

    Mastering Deck: 30 ips

BR-20 is the same generation 1/2 track deck as the TSR8. one day I will have one to go with my TSR8.

    score

The 707 is a great consumer level open reel deck. It records at 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 inches per second. You would be using it mostly for mixing down to two channel stereo and sending back to the PC as the 707 is a 1/4 track (each channel only takes up about 1/4 of the tape width, L + R for 2...

    Mastering Deck: 30 ips

Oh yeah, I use the 15 ips for sure. That and the tape goes by way too FA$T!!! Granted it's just 1/4", but still! When I first tried to go from the 38 down to the 32, I noticed the tape was about par on both machines. I thought I had a wrong setting so I punched the speed button and tried...

    Tascam Charger

I'm not familiar with the mkIII version (as I've only got the mkII), but Tascam should have them for less than $80, I would imagine. Offhand, all I can say is that you should make sure the polarity and voltage are exactly correct, and the amperage should be the same or more than a factory...

    Mastering Deck: 30 ips

It is just "LOW/HIGH". Maybe it could have been modded? It certainly looks mint and I have never questioned it. I thought all of the *2 series were 15/30 ips machines. Wow.
