Mix a rock song with blues theme...?

Yeah I agree. Just to be clear when you say heavy in the bottom do you mean the bass guitar, kick, or both? There are also issues with the chunk (for lack of a better word) guitars as well. The mix is completely static and would also benefit from automation. What drum samples/program did...

Had a little free time and figured I'd give this one a go. Still a work in progress but feedback is always appreciated.

Greg's Mixing contest is over. No tracks to download.

Went back and fixed some things in my original mix also "de-essed" the vocal track. Not perfect but much better IMO. Looking forward to hearing other mixes and GregL's pick.

Need a mix / mastering for my "We all know" song

Yes it is the Zynaptiq unfilter plug. Yeah, the low end is over the top; I'm still working on figuring out how exatcly to use the plug-in.

Need a mix / mastering for my "We all know" song

Late I know but wanted to try the new UNFILTER plug-in. This is the original mix; I just cleaned up some mids and pushed the low end a little. Feedback always welcome.

    Been awhile

Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment really appreciate it. I tried to keep the mix very open and not smash anything since I felt that the dynamics between the drums, bass and keys really helped make up for the performance issues with the vocals.

    Been awhile

Thanks for litening and taking the time to provide the feedback it is greatly appreciated. I do think you are spot on about the vocal performance and feel. Unfortuately, I didn't track the song, merely mixed so I'm really kind of stuck with what I got. I did mess with various effets on the...

    Reverb plugin

Best (IMO) reverb plug-ins that I've found/use are the lexicon pcm series. Since using them there is no need to look elsewhere.

    what order do you mix?

Depends on the style of music/song but lately I've been starting with the lead vocal and building up from there. Next after ld vox is overheads then kick

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

What micing technique are you using? The overall sound of the drums should come from the overheads, IMO. If any perticular part of the kit jumps out in the OHs then I'm going with poor mic placement. I will say that I've switched my snare mic to a telefunken M80...simply awesome.

    Good reverb VSTs?

Lexicon PCM series reverbs are really sweet. Not inexpensive but worth every penny, IMO.

Reverb - (What All Do You Use It On & How)

I have a template that loads 3 - 6 different Lexicon PCM verbs...they are sweet; vintage plates & rooms mostly but it depends on the song
