Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

velocity problem with keys Hal2000, I did not have exactly that problem with my Ensoniq--cf early in this discussion--however you might try moving some of the rubber contacts to different locations. You say that some of the keys work okay. Maybe after switching the contacts--moving them...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

I'm the guy who in this discussion, described the repair of the same problem with an Ensoniq ZR76 with the Fatar keyboard. I was able to just clean the contact board and replace the contacts. The contacts only cost $5. or so. The boards are expensive! Good luck.

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

Sticky Keys PC88 I had several sticky keys in my Ensoniq ZR76 with Fatar keys. It turned out that the weights rest on a rubber strip at the bottom of the board. Someone spilled a sticky liquid that dried on the rubber strip. I ended up removing just the side panel, made a long thin strip of...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

PC 88 Sqeaky Keys I used to own one. Many keys squeaked a bit. I put a tiny bit of petroleum jelly on the rubber pad on the weight that the bottom of the key touches. That's it. See the pic of a very similar Ensoniq ZR 76 that I also repaired. The yellow-green section applies to your...

    Korg N364

I've not used that board but older is not necessarily bad, especially when selecting a master keyboard that will also trigger sound modules and software synths. Does it feel right? Does it have some decent sounds to get you started? What is the condition of the unit: buttons, LCD screen...

    Keyboard for the studio

If other keyboardists are going to be recording on it I agree with MoreofSound and Dementedchord. I like the Kurz PC88 for this purpose. The 88 weighted Fatar keys is decent but you have to beware of squeaky keys. The problem is not difficult to resolve if you are into working inside the...

    Flakey Keyboard Buttons

My Kurzweil K2500x has a button used for editing sound that requires extra pressure and sometimes even a bit of wiggling in order to work. Any suggestions on what to do? I don't mind opening the unit to work on it. I have access to compressed air that I could direct towards it from the...

    sound card HELP!?!?

did you try to disable the new card in device manager temporarily and reboot? There are a variety of things I could recommend based on your answer. Also what software are you using to test it?

    fatar vmk "dead notes"

I'm one of the guys who posted pics of the Fatar keyboard in the post on that topic. How did you make out with your board? I agree it would be wise to open it and look for a damaged contact.

    Fixing / Upgrading Kurzweil K2500

Internal Iomega Zip Drive I'm a computer & server support professional so I've been installing SCSI gear going back to the mid 1990's. I've used the Zip 100 (Z100s) not the 250. I believe the Zip 250 is actually a parallel-scsi hybrid not a true scsi. There might be limitations such as not...

    Fixing / Upgrading Kurzweil K2500

K2500 Boot-Loader & OS Upgrade I finally got the unit to allow me into the boot-loader. I did a hard reset using Master : Reset. It then let me in when I pressed Exit during boot up. It installed OS v. 3.02 just fine. Todd, thanks for the tip on the Macros feature. It looks great. I may...

    Fixing / Upgrading Kurzweil K2500

Does the K2500 OS have the ability on start up to automatically load the Ram objects that were loaded the previous time the board was powered on? The Ensoniq TS10/12 automatically request this and will therefore automatically load the samples from scsi or floppy--a nice time saver...

    Fixing / Upgrading Kurzweil K2500

Thanks for the reply, Todd. KDFX requires a higher OS than my rather stock K2500x. v.3.02 is the latest OS for non KDFX boards. I have it on floppy and previously tried the steps you recommended. As I said elsewhere, I don't get the boot loader screen when I press the Exit button but...

    m- audio problem

A pic on the net gives me the impression the back could easily be opened. Maybe you could attach the amp to a different speaker and connect another amp to the unpowered speaker. The power connector gives me the impression that the power supply is inside the unit. Is that so? If not, maybe...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

Todd, I picked up the K2500x over the weekend for $525! It is a project keyboard. It had a broken side panel that I've already fixed with auto body filler and paint. it looks quite decent--it was just the bottom front corner. The keys are faded ivory rather than white. It did not respond to...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

Opening a K2500X Todd, you nearly got me killed with this one! The ensoniqs are a breeze to open and work on. You just turn it upside down, remove the screws and pull open the bottom panel. I nearly screwed up a K2500x when I recently opened it while it was upside down! There were a lot...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

You can see a bit of powder on the far left side of the pic; however the stains to the right of the weight are probably from the dried up liquid that spilled into the keyboard. I only used a small amount of powder and rubbed it onto the rubber strip. That is why I had to do it several times...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

Sticky Keys Much Improved Success! well, sort of. In Review: One key, C5, of all keys, on my Ensoniq ZR-76 (circa 1998) with Fatar weighted keys was sticky when initially pressed. It did not feel sticky all the way down, just at the onset of touch. Also it did not feel too bad in the...

Disassembling FATAR keyboard to clean - Help!

Sticky Key I used a bit of white grease on the spot where the key touches the weight. The grease is from a spray bottle and I used a long, thin extension extension to the spray bottle to access the location (the type that comes with WD-40). Initially the key felt great! Then after the key...
