    Pencil Condensers

Maybe kill two birds with one stone and get two good, versatile LDCs?

    What Next?

Definitely heed chessrock's advice and look into better instrument equipment. The source is the most important thing. It looks like you've got more money invested in your recording stuff. Recording forums make me crazy like that. I have been trying not to read them as much because I...

any one done a side by side of the tampa and dmp3?

Well if you've got the money for a Tampa, why not kick it up just a notch and get a nicer, completely dedicated preamp? At least, that's what I'd do hehe. ;)

    Small Diaphragm Condenser Pairs

I'm really interested in those Peluso SDCs. Now I'll probably have to buy them. I have been staying off this forum and not reading the HC recording forum so much lately because you people give me ridiculous GAS for recording gear when I need more money invested in my actual instruments. I...

    dmp3 v. Rane MS1b

Since you only need one more channel, maybe now would be the time to save up a little more and get a nicer preamp? Just a suggestion.

POD XT Live or Boss GT-8?

I like my Pod XT Live with the metal amp model pack run into my amp. Without the metal amp models, it isn't near as good. The effects are nice too and some of the extra effects you get for free, like the synth stuff, is just nuts. I like how the pedals are set up because you can just turn off...

    Sennheiser MD421 or e609

Lord, no. Aren't you recording heavy distorted guitar? If you can justify the extra cash, I'd take the MD421. If you don't think it is worth it to dump a few hundred bucks more, then go with the SM57 or the E609. You have to pick there.

    Sennheiser MD421 or e609

I think he is saying the MD421 is better suited to actually picking up the "chug," period, because it has an extended low end response.

If you had to, could you produce a solid recording with a single $100 mic?

Assuming rock, a SM57 can do a really good job for basically everything but drum overheads in that price range. I'd have a hard time deciding if I would use a SM57 or a cheaper condenser, though. You could do decent drums with the right condenser and possibly get better vocals. The guitars...

    What happened to CAD?

The nice thing about AMS is that they let you pay in three installments and you don't have to sign up for anything.

    How well do you think.....

Like fraserhutch said, the Groove Tubes Brick. That ought to add some color.

URGENT. Purchasing drum OHs within the next week or so.

If they're the cheaper drum mic kit types, I'd pass. You have lots of choices, and lots of good ones for the money at that. It is a hard decision, but ultimately, what it comes down to is what you are willing to spend. When you figure that out, it will be a much easier process.

URGENT. Purchasing drum OHs within the next week or so.

I know I'm complicating things, but you might also consider a pair of CAD M179s. That'd be like $360, which I know is going over, but everyone that has tried them seems to like them , and they have completely variable pickup patterns.

    Sickest Interface.

Oh my. Computer technology gets outdated so quickly and the stuff at the top of the line always tends to be cheaper compared to the price of top of the line stuff from years back. Remember how just a few years ago it was very common to see maybe $5,000 computers advertised, and that wasn't the...

I know some of you hate behringer products...

What are you recording, and can you make use of ADAT? I would think that unless you are recording a whole band at once you would benefit more from dropping $600 in one or two channels of good pres than a bunch of slightly better ones you won't make much use of.

Violet Microphones (another shade of blue?)

Wow, that is both really funny and really interesting. Thanks. Lol I think they need to get some help with their website.

About to buy a RUMOUR for its converters. Can 2 tie into a 002 somehow?

Yeah, but you see, I find it freaking weird that there's just a $500 effects processor for converters in that range. I guess there's not really a market for that stuff? Either that, or no one has taken advantage of it. It makes absolutely zero sense. It would seem like the Flying Cow should...

About to buy a RUMOUR for its converters. Can 2 tie into a 002 somehow?

While we're on the subject, does anyone know of any other good converters that haven't been mentioned running for well under the area of $1,000? That RME is interesting, but my current interface only has SPDIF. Is there ANYTHING that would go well with that? It seems to me that there is the...

    Speaker Cone as Mic???

"The flipside of this is that it's possible to use speakers for bugging. Being a paranoid myself I am not in favour of this, but I consider that it's important to check speakers to see if they are being used for bugging. Remember that there is no little "bug" involved - it's the speaker itself...

    Oktava deal at GC

Lol! You know, maybe they don't sell them online because of the QC issues? Imagine what it would be like for them to deal with the malfunctioning/non-functioning ones being shipped out to people.
