cakewalk 6.0 audio file .wrk to burn

not quite sure about version six, but you should be able to mixdown or export the audio to a wave file, which you can then burn. A wrk file doesn't actually hold the audio, it contains a pointer to where the audio is actually being stored William Underwood

    First time for everything

Doc: I'll work on the volume, that'll be better for the next take. CMiller: Ya, I'll be adding a bass line of some sort, some vocals or a lead of some kind, and (forgive me) some light canned drums. gibs: Ya, I was thinking it was a bit long... oh well, I'm not the one who has to download...

    First time for everything

You don't need the password... you want to visit the idrive, not log into it. Thanks for the effort though, gibs [This message has been edited by cwillu (edited 02-25-2000).]

    First time for everything

Well, here's my first contribution. I finally got around to recording something, not much, but oh well... I only started it last night, so there isn't much to it yet. It's not available in stores, but you can get it fat-free, regular or extra greasy at the good ol' www.idrive.com , user name...

    how do you....?

Enter, one of the things Radio Shack is good for... they'll have the cable you need.

Do I really need Aardvark 24/96?

A balanced connection requires three conductors... rca connections only have two. Unbalanced connections have one wire which carries the audio signal, and a shield. The wire is quite capable of picking up radio frequencies, especially on long cable lengths. For this reason, they invented...

What do I need to do the following:

Hi Yes, the aardvark (I'm assuming you mean the Direct Pro) works with real microphones (it has phantom power as well), so it could work in this situation. I don't think there are any other soundcards that have four preamps built-in, so if you go another route, you'd need to buy a mixer or...

    Playback on tracks sounds warped.

PAPicker was on the right track there... Unless you have to sync cakewalk to something, make sure the synchronization is set to 'Audio', that should solve your problem.

    Soundblaster help

Does the audio sound like it's skipping or something? It doesn't sound like the sound card is at fault. This seems to be the thing to check these days: go into the start menu, settings, control panel, system, devices, disk drives, and right click on your harddrive. choose properties, then go...

    Soundblaster help

You don't neccessarily need to scrap your entire machine. I'd get a bigger hard drive (preferably bigger than 10 gigs), and a better soundcard (just hunt around). A P166, although not the fastest computer in the world, can work for recording. People are probably getting sick of me continually...

ADAT Edit PCI Problems solved......I think...:)

Well, I guess it's no big secret that techies quite often don't really know what they talking about, beyond the simplest of problems (duh, is the computer on?). No offense to any techies around here, there are quite a few knowledgable people on this site... but I think we've all experienced...

ADAT Edit PCI Problems solved......I think...:)

It defaults to off in 98 as well (big surprise, considering the lack of any significant difference between 95 and 98) Yep, first thing to check if you can't play & record skip free audio is the dma setting. For those who don't know where it is: Settings | Control Panel | System | Devices |...

    Going into the soundcard!!!

If the instrument works at line level, then nothing. Mics will need a preamp of some kind. I'm showing my ignorance in saying that I don't know what you need for a guitar... but if you're micing an amplifier, see previous statement. There are many, _many_ different ways to do this... and it's...

    Line Input problems

Line in plugs are on soundblaster type soundcards are stereo plugs. If you insert a mono plug into that, one channel (the one on the rign on the plug) gets shorted out onto the ground (the sleeve of the plug), and only the other channel makes it through (the tip). The computer sees this as...

    Cakewalk studioware

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but do you actually own the equipment? Studioware panels are just control panels designed for certain pieces of equipment, they don't actually change the sound at all. If you don't actually own, say, a line 6 pod, the studioware panel for a line 6 pod...

unwanted blend of midi tracks with wav files

Are you using the AWE64 synth for the midi tracks? In the windows volume control, under recording controls, make sure that it is not set to record the midi, this should solve your problem. William Underwood

    Cakewalk Pro Audio 5.0

There is a reason that you can get 5.0 for 20$, and PA9 cost's 200+$ Check on cakewalk's site, though, they offer lower prices for upgrading (even from dos versions).

    opinions...

I have a MC-50, and have been happy with it so far. I'm not sure what a fair price would be for it, or any of its cousins, though (mine was a Christmas present a couple years ago).

    Edit a Wav file.

Try goldwave (www.goldwave.com). It has a fairly good noise reduction system, and about as many other functions as you'll probably be needing. The shareware version is limited to 150 commands per session, the you have to restart the program, but there's alot you can do in 150 commands...

or, where you talking about recording tracks into cakewalk which are seperate from the tracks on the fd-4? If this is the case, then yes, it should be fairly easy: just set the fd-4 to transmit midi clock messages (I think it may do this by default, actually), and set cakewalk's sync to MIDI...
