OTARI MX-5050 MKIV-4 (1/2", 4 track) is still being made!!

Yeah, the 8 track is half inch and from the looks of it for anyone looking for new machines, it's now also available as a current model- http://www.trycho.com/trychostore/ANALOG-RECORDERS-TAPE-SUPPLIES-C415.aspx The return of all these new analog machines is a little surprising to me. Great...

2" 16 track advice on brands

Speaking of new Otari 4 tracks, they're not $9000, but more like $6000. Here for example- http://www.trycho.com/trychostore/ANALOG-RECORDERS-TAPE-SUPPLIES-C415.aspx I've sent business to these guys over the years and called them to ask if they're actually getting much traffic on the 4 track...

Anyone familiar with an Otari MX5050?

I agree the machine is a bargain if it's in good shape. Especially when you compare to what they're going for new- http://www.trycho.com/trychostore/ANALOG-RECORDERS-TAPE-SUPPLIES-C415.aspx

    Multitracking in Soundforge?

Sound Forge 9 is not a daw and does not do multitracking...the world is plenty full of daw programs. What it remains being is an editor. Or a "mixdown" machine for some folks. Sound Forge 9 does similar things as Wavelab's montage feature. This is the multi-channel concept (not multitrack)...

Fletcher- Iz Technologies Radar Digital Multitrack

Ok Fletcher, I bet two dollars that the new project is online realtime recording sessions. Or maybe a new line of vintage fuzz-boxes.

    Help Please Lost Song

Whatever it is, be sure to copy the assoicated wav files to a dvd so they're safely stored before you delve into why the project won't open. I'd then get on the phone (or forums) with Cakewalk and see what ideas they have.

    Dumb Digital Rant

......."OH!!! And to address this B.S. about REWIND TIME... c'mon man, a song of about 3.5 minues takes between 30-45 second to rewind top to bottom. And 99% of analog remotes have autolocators so you can store 10-12 locate points...just like digital...." How one works is all personal...

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

....."but we dropped it in favor of SAW Plus 32 (I'm not even sure if SAW exists anymore?) ...." I never could figure out why Saw didn't get bigger than it did. I bought the first SAW program in 1994 or 1995 since it was the only fairly organized, workable program for the incredibly weak pcs...

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

At the time Protools was released at that first Namm show, the industry was still heavily into it's sixth or seventh year of digital multitracks such as the 3m and Mitsubishi. Those had already pretty much killed the analog multitracks (MCI was absorbed and killed off etc) and the remaining...

    Dumb Digital Rant

...."There is no analog Autotune...." For those of use who grew up making commercial music on analog, yes there is Autotune for analog. It comes in two interchangeable modes. One is varispeed and the other is...

Are There Any Drum Machines Designed For Live Use?

I know you said no software, but this is what two guys I know use for live playing (drums are the only non-live part they use). Their gig over by Disneyland is pretty cool, the drum sounds are spot-on and the price seems to be a no brainer compared to what it used to be...

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

......."Why can't they just make a super high quality RtoR instead of "Emulating" them? ....." Forgetting increasingly trashed, used Ebay machines for a moment, "They" DO make super high quality RtoR machines. You want a brand new analog 2-to-24 track? No problem. Go get one. You can place...

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

I was at Digi's booth and listened/played with this demo for a bit. It's really good. The bulk of the people in and around the booth are/were guys from extensive tape backgrounds ...so it's pretty easy to listen to the plug and judge whether it's useful against all the multitrack recorders...

    Linn

These folks added midi in/out to several of my Linndrums in the 80's and are experts at all the old Linn stuff. When you're at the link below, click on whichever model you have and it'll show you the pricing for adding midi- http://www.forat.com/drummachines/

    Convertors...

I'm a big fan of Echo and if you move into the newer versions (3g, Audiofires etc), you're moving into some nice converters. I don't personally believe RME or Motu units are better in that department. Taking it even further, there are quite a few Gearlslutz posts from guys who have both Echo...

SoundCards with 8+ analog inputs...who uses one, or can recommend one (or 2)?

The Layla3g has 8 ins and 8 outs. Actually 16 ins and 16 outs when you, for example, add something like an Alesis AI3..which would then let you do 16 analog I/O from the Layla3g. You can mistakenly think that the stock Layla3g only has 6 analog ins because you fail to count the 6 in on the...

    Echo Audiofire12

I use pretty much every Echo box ever made. As to the AF12....very stable drivers whether for Xp or Vista. Great sound out to 192k. Multiple Audiofires work very well together in sync. If you need 12, 24, 36, 48, or 60 lines in/out at 192k, this is a good way to go...although I don't know of...

Please Help! I have the FAKEST recorded guitar tone EVER

One thing you can do is to send the isolated direct track to these guys.... http://www.trycho.com/trychostore/category1.aspx?SID=6&Category_ID=5 They do reamping, sims, and all kinds of other track manipulations. You send the track via ftp etc and (if you have it) a commercial reference of...

Trying ONCE AGAIN to get this tape tip uploaded.....

Yes, this is a very common method that's been around for 30+ years....in it's earliest form, the transfers from any one tape machine were going into a second machine (rather than into a computer). All synchronized via smpte and a synchronizer for the two machines. One variation of what you...
