    Msr 24

Found a guy with an atr80-24 in great shape and Montebello can do a couple of things I need done on it. To swing it, I'm going to sell the msr24. Mine's the one with dbx. Sorta out of the loop on this and I don't see many out there.. except broken down for parts. For a quick sale (I hope)...

How Many Regular Members Are No Longer Here?

Haha..... I still have 3 or 4 of the earlier Model 1's that are still alive and kicking. Think I bought all of those in 1976 or so. Some stuff never dies.

2 x Tascam TSR 8's synced with Tascam MTS 1000 Midiiser viable setup or not?

A general checklist to do one at a time .... Be sure the dip switches on the midiizer and back of each tsr8 are set correctly. y-cord the tc gen out on the midiizer to two rca cords to feed input 8 on each tsr 8 (Or just stripe one tsr8 at a time.. doesn't really matter but a y-cord saves...

    The Twins came home today....

Hemet... hahaha. Lots of horses, dust, hot weather, and studio stuff. There's an 8516b on sale a few miles south of Hemet in Temecula (was thinking about grabbing it for spares), at least two m3700s for sale a few miles north and west of Hemet. At least two ms16s for sale around Lake...

    85-16 in recent real life

I only recently became aware of Amy Winehouse's sessions and Daptone records. Little late on that huh? Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised that the main tape machine is an 85-16... the first dark grey model like my first one was. For all I know, this may even be my original machine, even...

2 x Tascam TSR 8's synced with Tascam MTS 1000 Midiiser viable setup or not?

Sounds cool to me. The Midiizer with twin machines is lots of fun. You can even buy a third tsr8 in the future and another Midiizer or ATS500 to get three of them going for 21 tracks .. and lots of spare parts.

85-16b develops its first problem since I bought it new 23 years agp

Transport is still a-okay with the fifty cent radio shack fuse replacment. The optical shutoff is still a little weird. Normally, the red optical light only allows transport movement and capstan spin if tape is loaded, blocking the optical path to a mirror (I guess it's a mirror in there)...

85-16b develops its first problem since I bought it new 23 years agp

Thanks for the tip. One of the 20a fuses was bad. A quick trip to radio shack and transport's moving great so far in all modes. Dunno why I put this off for four years. Looks like one of the fuse holders is bad too, so I'll have to fix that and then just run the machine for a week or two to...

85-16b develops its first problem since I bought it new 23 years agp

This actually started some time back so I moved to using other Tascam machines I have when needed. Thought some of you transport gurus may have an opinion on this before I haul this over to Montebello. Reel motors have decided to not move tape .. at all ...in play/ff/rew or spool. Whether...

    New production analog tape machine?

A better bargain is to buy a brand new Otari 5050 III built at the factory a couple of weeks ago. A bargain now at around 8k as the price is going up after the next five are gone.

Tascam 122 MKII - How do you clean the heads, & more...

As I remember, if you click to open the door, you can then grasp it with your fingers at each side and lift straight up and it will remove. That's how you then get access to the heads after you click the metal part back to closed position. The plastic door then snaps back down and on when...

    MCI JH-636 Story

This is a cool thread. I spent a lot of time at Criteria in the 70s in front of their four MCI consoles (at the time) and never in my wildest imagination thought this stuff would end up in homes.. much less a home recording forum. I have lots of the original MCI brochures from back in those...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Since the Cooper circuit card and console do the work and the connection to the outside world is midi, I wouldn't be surprised if some enterprisiing kid who knows c programming or 68000 decompiling couldn't whip up a windows gui version of this in about ten minutes just by taking a look at the...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Pages 51-52 of the 3700 binder (not the later schematics section), show the midi protocol for sysex, vca moves, switches etc that appear at the midi in/out of the console. That's the crux of the communication to the Cooper computer and also the communication that was used to demo the old...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Not sure what state you're located in. Is the electronic gremlin search and cure the actual journey for you? I've never had the time or desire to get into the tear-down and rebuild of tape machines and consoles. First sign of anything remotely resembling the type of things you're...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I think you're only about the second person I've ever heard of who has the JLCooper kit. I thought I was the only one. You can pick up an old Mac on ebay and an opcode interface to get your Cooper stuff happening. System 6 or 7 works fine. The Mac list on the JlCooper manual is based on the...

    Pre-amps in TASCAM consoles

Speaking of Tascam preamps, one of the last times the 3700 was cranked up around here 3 or so years ago was for a couple of days of comparing an ADL600, Neve Portico, and a Manley tube something or other that were all in here at the same time. And just for the heck of it, the 3700 channel strip...

    You're all still here !

I never bought an MT30 back in the day as it was really only for sync of drum machines and sequencers to tape and nothing else. Sounds like you've got the gist of it figured out for your Alesis. The MT30 was also a smart box of sorts as you could ff/rew tape to any location, hit play, and the...

    You're all still here !

It's been pretty much computer-only for me for so many years now that it's not likely that I'm going to fire up the old stuff again. Whaddya think thse are going for in this terrible economy? I haven't checked the ebay/craigslist route yet, but you all probably have some fantastic feedback...

Question for TSR-8 and MSR-16/24 Owners

Msr24 here has from l-r..erase..rec/play...large roller. All inside the headstack. Tsr8 here has the previously mentioned erase in center, rec/play to the right. Don't know for sure, but in looking at the entire tape path on both machines, and being that one of them here is 1/2" and the other...
