Piltdown Man here... this is why I no longer do a capella :-)

I "wrote" this song eight years ago... LONG before I knew what the hell I was doing. It was definitely a joke (and I might have been high). It's stupid and horrible, and that's why I'm adding it to the a capella challenge. I hope you all hate it. :-) Chill is the name. This won't be up there...

Rum + Recording studio = weird mix?

HAVE I BEEN DISSING YOU?! Dude, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to diss you. It wasn't intentional. I just go down the list of new posts, and either I missed yours or lived in a fugue state for a couple of days. (Could've been the affinity for alcohol consumption.) ;-) Give me a link, I'll go...

    Safe

Dude, I was just kidding about the hating you thing. That was supposed to be a compliment, in my own inimitable manner. :-) Also, I tend to forget that not everyone here writes all their own lyrics, plays all their own instruments, writes all their own music and mixes everything themselves. I'm...

Check my drum room on this indiepowerpop tune

The drums are nice and clean... I'll give you that. and the eq sounds pretty on. They are a little dry, though. For post-punk power-pop like this, I think you need a bit more of an arena sound. You're halfway to Poison, make it sound like you want to get laid. :-) I have to be honest though...

    adulterate

Catchy. A couple of vocal misses on notes, but nothing too violent. Love the lip-trumpet/trombone thing! Gotta remember that one! I could actually stand a little stronger guitar, myself. But hey, opinions are like... well, you know. Honestly though, it's almost TOO close to a capella right now...

    A bit of classical anyone?

Wait... is Nottingham in England or another part of the UK? Shows how much geography I know. And seriously, I was just kidding.

    A bit of classical anyone?

Geezer does it again. Very nice. You Brits have always been good with music and Stamp Acts, haven't you? (j/k!). You're probably not a video gamer, I gather from your posts, but maybe some of the others here who are can back me up on this: If you've ever played any of the Silent Hill games...

Piltdown Man here... I need more LEVEL!

Wow, thanks for the help! Unfortunately, I'm just a hobbiest, so sending out for mastering is really not an option, but I do realize that's a good suggestion. Thanks. I'm guessing Steven is closest to my most immediate problem. My levels are quite inconsistent from song to song, considering...

I blame it all on Sluice...........

Nice vocals and harmonies. That clap is damn distracting, though. :-) Nice job. A capella is the hardest thing in the world to do. Piltdown Man

a new "heavy" tune from gonzo

Well, Gonzo! Finally someone who has an inkling what the hell Piltdown Man means. I don't know about everyone else, but this is much kinder to my eardrums. This is just so damn creative! Oh, wait, the mix... the hat and snare don't jump out and stab me in the eardrum nearly as bad. Good levels...

    preliminary mix.....comments appreciated...

I'd like to second the boomy bass comment. Overall a very nice ditty. You've already heard about the rhythm guitars, so I won't rehash that. Very listenable. Makes me bob my head back and forth against my will. That's a good sign. Looking forward to hearing the final. Odd bass part near the...

New song: Drum 'n Bass / Electronica

Let me start by saying I like this quite a bit. I'm hearing some competing hertz in some places, which I have a big problem with myself. It makes it a bit muddy and introduces some weird harmonics. It's not real bad or anything. It just makes it a little less clean and separated than it could...

Piltdown Man here... I need more LEVEL!

When I listen to a retail CD -- or even numerous posts on this site -- and then listen to one of my own CDs or songs, they're often at a much lower overall volume. I push my faders until just before the "clip light" comes on (in Cubase), and I use compression, but I can't get the same level. Any...

    Real Drum, Real Headache...

The snare sounds a LITTLE dull; might want to give it a bit more snap with a tighter head or something. Hat seems okay. Ride cymbal stands out a slight bit too much for me. Bass seems okay. Toms a bit prominent, but not too bad. Compress the whole thing a bit, and it would probably be okay...

    Safe

Hold on... let me add you to the list of people I hate for being so much better than me... There.. done. :-) I'm in SLuiCe's corner, mostly. He basically hit the nail on the head. Gorgeous vocal. I mean gorgeous. If you're gonna do pop, do it like this. Thanks for not trying to emulate Scott...

a new "heavy" tune from gonzo

Very Jane's Addiction. Me like. Yeah, I could see the vocals coming down just a TAD. Bot only a tad. The hat's a bit bright for me, as well as the snare. Nice guitar, dude. You can make that bitch sing. God, your voice sounds like Perry. That's good. Very creative. What is this lately...

    Samicide/SLuiCe Collaboration

Nice guitar! The song sounds a little thick on my Klipsch 4.1 system. Lots of bass. I'm losing your vocals, SLuiCe, mostly in the verses. This is getting awfully close to Tool quality, gentlemen. You better watch it, or you're gonna become rock stars. I can see where it might need a few more...

    Kick my ass!! Please!!!!!

Um... wow. This is NOT what I expected when I clicked on this link. If it's possible to die and go to heaven twice in two days, then I have done it. Damn. The point where you come out of the dance section with the "ow" kind of thing. That gave me chills. I honestly can't find much fault in...

My Dr. Demento / BLUE Mic Silly Song Submission

Okay, I have to agree with the Zappa comment. He lives! Nice drums. Excellent bass. That f-ing bass makes my balls ring. Keyboards are a bit lost, but I'm not a big keyboard fan, so that's okay. :-) This song grooves. I like grove. Groove is good. Catchy, relatively funny. Ooh, like the...

    Summer Of Love

Wow. I wish I could get that much separation and definition in my instruments. My only complaint: the hat and a couple of lead solo parts seem a little loud and bright on my Klipsch 4.1 system. It's a beautiful song. Well recorded, well mixed, well everything. Not my style of music by about a...
