I don't think I have a grounding problem. It's a new house, so electrical should be good. Could it be that I'm using bus power for 410 instead of wall wart?
71 is a hell of a lot! And then someone around here said mutt lange recorded every note of every chord on some of the earlier def leppard albums. Talk about OCD!
For electronic music, any of the following should get you started: Sonar 2/3 or Cubase vst/sx, Propellerhead Reason, and maybe a few soft synths such as NI kontakt, reaktor, pro-53, and fm-7. I use an oxygen midi keyboard and akai mpd16 for triggering the synths and drum samplers. If you're...
-You are correct about the s/pdif. If you stay digital, then you should not lose sound quality. However, you might want to refer to some of the other threads on bit depth (not rate). There are some guys lurking around here who are real guros on this stuff.
- Shures are good for certain...
I'm pretty sure. The cables I'm using to connect from mic pre to 410 are not mogami, but a step below. Gold 1/4" ends...maybe pro link, monster? Not sure. I paid about $15-17 per one meter cord at GC. It could be my xlr cable though. I know it's a cheapo. I'll try to upgrade that when i...
I have a focurite twin trak pre that i'm sending through an m-audio firewire410. My problem (from what I've gathered) is the 410 only has 2 1/4" unbalanced (TS) jacks that I can use to bypass the onboard preamps. As so, I'm getting a lot of noise in the signal. However, while monitoring...
Both sonar and cubase have the ability to automate controller movements. I'll use sonar/cubase for midi recording and automation then dump it to cool edit for editing. I agree, if you just need fade in/outs, it's easier to use envelopes, which is what I do most of the time.
For a distorted guitar sound I record through a pod xt. It sounds great while tracking, but when i listen back, it's very thin. I even double track and pan each at 50% L/R. For EQ I usually scoop the mids at 800 hz and roll off at 60hz. Wherein lies the problem? Tracking w/ pod, eq...
Of course it really depends on the style of music you're doing, but I like to compress bass and vocals for pop/rock stuff. Also drums if you're tracking the real deal.
By splitting, I assume you're referring to separate tracks. Yes, as long as you have a soundcard with 2 or more inputs. You can setup each tracks input by selecting the appropriate channel you're recording through...ie. for 2 input card, one track set to left channel, one to right channel...
Sounds like you need to utilize cool edit pro more. Anytime you mix to computer, noise is added. Plus you're converting to digital going into the fostex dmt, so why not eliminate that and go directly into cool edit pro. I don't know what type of mics you have, but I would recommend a...
Hi. I have some original adat tapes from recording in a studio approximatley 8 years ago and I want to have the tracks converted to wav files for remixing. The problem is I don't have any adat machines. What should I do? Buy some used adats or pay someone to have these tracks (10 songs at 16...
What type of soundcard are use using? A lot of cards now have direct monitoring, especially the break out boxes. I would definitely use that before any software monitoring due to latency issues. I have an M-audio FW410 and it works great in cubase, sonar, and cool edit.
Have you checked the soundcards mixer settings? If everthing checks out there, I would check the manufacturer's website for any known issues. If you can't find it there, then contact tech support.
- I write the song on acoustic guitar and find a vocal melody by humming it out. Then I'll go back and write lyrics to fit melody and phrasing.
- Record scratch track of acoustic gtr w/ lead vox over midi click or basic drum loop. This gives me guidance in song for the rest of tracks. Then...
