Thanks Ghost.
Any thoughts on length? C90s seem too delicate.
OMFG! 175 bucks for a cassette? WTF? Thats more than I pay for new 2" tape. It better sound like a million bucks
Hey all..,
I normally do all my recording on 2" tape and have it down. I always use Ampex 499. Also use the same for 1/4" mix.
But a recent project has me experimenting with a decidedly simplistic recording situation.
I am in the process of recording a black metal band in mono using my Nagra...
Well I, for one, have never Fast forwarded from just threading. I remember being taught that way back in the day (late 60s). I use the shuttle/jog control and spool on a a couple minutes of tape before I mark as zero and continue with the session. I dont know if your 288 has that function...
Stanton makes all range of cartridge and stylii. Id steer clear of the DJ ones, they are ruggedized for that abuse and they are harder on your vinyl. I run a 681EEE in the table in the studio.
Look on eBay for platter mats. Im sure something on there could be made to work.
A new stylus wont...
Where do you live? If in the US go on craigslist. These home units are on there all the time and often dirt cheap.
Heads are easy enough to check. For your ap they dont have to be pristine, but no obvious groove across the face caused by tape travel.
Im not sure Id (personally) worry too much...
I couldnt find anything on the amplifier you mention with a web search.
You shouldnt even need an amplifier for what you are trying to do. A cable that mates with the microphone at one end and the other end mates with your computers mic in.
Im a MAC guy myself, but I see on here a ton of times...
If you want to get into building things for yourself, check out the site GroupDIY. Lots of stuff to check out, and a for sale section. There are 500 series racks for one or two units.
Lot of helpful folks too.
I just finished building a recreation of the PYE compressors. Probably saved 8 or 9...
Dont bother with the feedback. Go to your closed auctions and click "return item". Seller pays return shipping. Done, then look for a more suitable unit.
Its kind of clunky if your home studio is all in one room. But if you have a live room and a control room, they make a lot of sense.
50' should not cause any degradation problems assuming the snake is a quality one and not an import from china.
You lost me with: "I dont want to transform this guide to a "Analog VS Digital" topic"
and immediately backed it up with: ...and sooner or later some of the analog fanatics will come and spread some inaccuracies and I want to get rid of that"
Separate amp(s) for me. Ive had powered, and they are space savers and convienient if nothing else. Separate amp lets me try about anything I care to drag in.
Currently Im really enjoying vintage mac.
Stock photo, mine are buried in racks.
3D printing is an option. When the company that I work at had that capability I printed up switch caps for my Sony APRs. The buttons are unavaiable ANYWHERE, but now I have a life time supply.
Do you know anyone in the field of Engineering. It would be short work to use a pair of calipers on...
Not sure what you are asking, but if your question is: Is it true that you cannot play back stuff that you recorded before the heads were re-lapped, after the heads get re-lapped?
The answer to that question is NO that is NOT true.
