MD421-II/e609S mic comparison... chuggin with a Cobra Amp

I agree with everyone that liked the MD-421 better, not much to add on my part you all covered it well. Now what I want to hear is some sm-57/m201/md421 snare clips! :D

    In search of vocals..

:) Nice, I've been checking the mp3 forums all the time waiting for others shot at the vocals. I thought the vox fit, although IMHO the vox should have been brought up just a little bit. But good sound. Now I can finally sleep. :D

    Digital Pres

I think that the quality of the octane pres can't be worse than the DMP3's because think about it, you only need one powersupply for the whole Octane, and there are no meters, so its probably a case of when you buy more you pay less per item.

    Digital Pres

You might also want to take a look at the M-audio Octane. It has 8 channels with Adat out as well. The quality is supposed to be equivelent to a DMP3 so it cant be that bad.

    Vocal/guitar Vic

$100 gets you an sm57 and another $100 gets you the v67g buy them both and find out what works. They are both great budget mics, so one or both of them will work.

Different vocal mic then the KSM32

I'd also take a look at the MXL V69m or V6 which would offer a more colored sound than the ksm32. Another option might be the Rode NTK which is different than the other two, but also colored. The RE20 might also might be a nice pick up, although your MD421 might work on some vocalists aswell...

    Anyone have experience recording saxophones?

I'd try a AT4040, or KSM27 condensor before the Blue bird and and definitly an RE20 over the 421 (although a great mic) on sax. I belive you will be pleased with the 421 or Blue bird but both (especially the blue bird) have better aplications than sax and there are other mics in a close range...

    Anyone have experience recording saxophones?

I've had great results on tenor with an EV RE20 it gives a nice warm sound compared to some of the condensors I've used. The MD421 would probably be fine I just haven't used it for that. I can't comment on the alto becasue I've had the luxury of using a TLM103 on that, but it just doesn't sound...

Drum mics, any glaring problems or suggestions

I've never heard the 451's. So I can't comment, but I love the sm81s or mc012s on a smaller budget. I highly recomment the mc012s great value. 100 bucks for a pair at GC russian models. Never been upset with them. But other than that your list seems fine the Md421s are great for toms as a bonus...

    In search of vocals..

Thanks for the complement, I don't deserve it though :p For the record that was my first time singing for anything I stay as far away from the lime light while still having the power. Audio: I mix, Video: I edit, Theater: I design and run lighting, this was my first time actually "preforming"...

    Micing Drums

AKG C2000B - overhead - placed over the kit and can be moved and aimed to get more toms and snare or more cymbals, although you can aim the mic to pick up more of a certain sound this mic should pick up the sound of the whole kit. Starting place - 6 feet high over the toms pointed more or less...

my futile attempt at rock - comments welcom!

 You like it  wow thats unbelieveable! I recorded it into a digi002 rack one instrument at a time starting with drums. MC-012s on Overheads, SM 57 on snare, and lead guitar, d112 on kick and back guitar, baby bottle on vox. All effects were standard protools plug-ins no extras. I...

my futile attempt at rock - comments welcom!

This is a song I recorded a while ago, but have never been satisfied with the mix. (after 15 attempts) So I am here to see if any of you all can point me in the right direction. I will post the mp3 but can provide the aif or wav at request. Thanks for listening! Backsteps

2 new songs posted, have a listen please.

I thought overall break of dawn was great, very relaxing good mood etc. The chatter in the begging was a great touch, I don't know if you have tried it but you might want to try adding it into the end aswell. As its been said the higher voice is, at places, out of sync with the main vocal. Other...

    oppinions on my first mix/master

Oh :p thanks for clearing that up electronik. eh, grn, yeah its pretty compressed. Luckly i can take that out because its a plug-in. I'll take out the compression and bring up the bass and post a new version. The compression should take care of the woodwinds problem. -thanks
